Guild Wars 2 is nostalgic! Because with Episode 2 of the living story, not only a nasty cliffhanger is resolved, but also an ancient location from the first Guild Wars is revisited: The Ring of Fire Island Chain!
We don’t want to spoil the events of Episode 1 of the third season of the living story of Guild Wars 2, but there was a brutal cliffhanger that finds its conclusion in Episode 2. Then it continues straight into a completely new region – at least, if you don’t know Guild Wars 1.

And it (still) burns, burns, burns… the Ring of Fire!
Veterans of Arenanet’s MMORPG know the location all too well. Because it is nothing less than the Ring of Fire Island Chain! There, the spectacular showdown of the base game “Prophecies” took place, and over the caldera of a mighty volcano, the final battle occurred with the former vizier of Orr, who was the “Undead Lich” final boss.
Those days are long gone, and the cataclysms surrounding the return and death of the dragons Zhaitan and Mordremoth have left their marks on the volcanic islands. Nevertheless, veterans will surely recognize a few places, such as the old fortress of the dark Mursaat.
A Heart for Quests
Additionally, there will be a return of the good old heart quests, which this time are even repeatable daily. Among them are fun tasks such as feeding an angry lava snail for a jester crew or assisting Skritt pirates. Furthermore, the ability “Ley-Line Gliding” is essential for the islands, and there will also be a new ability to tunnel through the lava tunnels.
Lastly, there’s also something new for PvP fans. A new 5vs5 map called “Eternal Coliseum” is coming, which fittingly takes place in an arena. For those who can’t wait for all this, a little more patience is required, as Episode 2 starts on September 20 and, as always, is free for everyone who logs into Guild Wars 2 during the chapter’s runtime and has the expansion Heart of Thorns.
