The next big chapter of the Living World of Guild Wars 2 is now known. The Icebrood Saga begins on September 17 and brings new story content as well as new features.
What is the Icebrood Saga? The continuation of the Living World of Guild Wars 2 will take players to the icy north in the autumn. There, deep in the Shiverpeaks, the Elder Ice Dragon Jormag continues to gain power and expand its corrupted influence. He will become a serious threat to the inhabitants of Tyria.
He is supported by the defector cult “Sons of Svanir”. They have turned away from the worship of the Spirits of the Wild and instead pray to the Elder Dragon as their ultimate animal totem. He has already corrupted countless Norn and Kodan and made them his mindless slaves.
The owners of the expansion Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire will receive the entire Icebrood Saga for free. A prologue titled “Bound by Blood” will be released on September 17. The first episode is expected to be released later this autumn.

What new features are there? Fans can look forward to attack missions in the Icebrood Saga, for example. In these missions, 10 players will face off against bosses. The battles are a mix of raids and large-scale meta-events and require good group coordination.
Other features include:
- New boss creatures in the areas around Grothmar Valley and the Northern Shiverpeaks
- Drakkar, the Champion of the Elder Dragon Jormag, whom fans will recognize from Guild Wars 1. He will appear as a world boss in Episode 2
- New masteries that tell the story of the Spirits of the Wild. The first will come with Episode 1 and focus on the Raven
- A new PvP armor has been announced
- Additionally, features such as build templates and WvW updates from the roadmap in April are expected to be released “soon”.

What bonuses are there? Players of Guild Wars 2 or those who want to become players will also receive a small gift. Owners or buyers of the second GW2 expansion “Path of Fire” will receive the first expansion “Heart of Thorns” for free.
If you already own Heart of Thorns, you will instead receive a veteran package containing in-game items. These include:
- A unique Mordrem glider
- The title “Vanguard”
- A voucher for one of the 16 different armor skins from the shop
