In the fantasy MMO Guild Wars 2, direct contact with the community is sought. Now they want to hear what fans think about guild halls.
Guild halls were a big deal in the first Guild Wars. They served as a meeting point for communities in the game to get to know each other, as an anchor and starting point of the virtual world. Therefore, it surprised some that guild halls did not play a role in the sequel. Since the release, the halls have been a topic that keeps coming up among fans. Many harbor some resentment towards ArenaNet.
Wind of Change? Or just a breeze?
In recent weeks, a “wind of change” is blowing at ArenaNet, or at least the announcement of such is in the air. Studio Design Director Whiteside is reaching out to fans as part of a CDI (Collaborative Development Initiative) and wants to hear their opinions on various “hot” topics in an open exchange. A few weeks ago, something similar occurred regarding “Raids for Guilds”. Some Guild Wars veterans have been waiting long for this.
Whether this communication will bear fruit remains to be seen. The suggestions from fans certainly deserve to be considered. They propose to decorate the guild halls with trophies from the world, so that the hall also reflects the size and fame of its owners. Alternatively, the guilds could gather resources to beautify the hall. With a certain amount of wood, the facade could be refaced, and the hall could keep changing.
Other suggestions lean more towards PvP. Instead of guild halls, one could also introduce guild fortresses that would need to be conquered or defended.
Will Guild Wars 2 really get Guild Wars?
Most agree that Guild Wars 2 could benefit if it brought the guild communities further to the forefront. And ArenaNet is ready to talk about it. One of the upcoming topics is also “Guild versus Guild,” the guild wars that will be brought to the agenda. Perhaps those fans will then be reassured who think that “Guild Wars 2” doesn’t really deserve its name.
