In honor of Valentine’s Day, we present to you the story of two players. They met in Guild Wars 2 and have been inseparable ever since!
Hobbies bring many people closer together. This is also true for gaming. Some players form close friendships or even romantic relationships.
One particularly touching story is about the two Guild Wars players Nicole and Tyler, whom we want to present to you in honor of today’s Valentine’s Day.
The Guild as a Matchmaking Platform
The two gamers Nicole and Tyler are both passionate players of Guild Wars 2. They met in the game because they played in the same guild and immediately got along great. Tyler had been in the guild for a while and showed Nicole some content.
But even later, the two always happened to be online together and dedicated themselves to the epic task of “Map Completion”. In Guild Wars 2, you can explore each map 100% by completing all tasks and points of interest.
This consumed a lot of time and they had a lot of fun. Meanwhile, Tyler had already completed this challenging task!
“Let’s go out sometime!”
At some point, Nicole suggested a date to Tyler. The two spent a weekend together and fell in love. From then on, they met more often and spent even more time playing.
Of the approximately 1,300 hours in Guild Wars 2, Nicole spent about 1,000 with Tyler: “You can really get to know someone well in 1,000 hours.” The two have been together for 4 years now. For almost 2 years, they have lived in a shared apartment with a cat.
Real-Life Map Completion …
Since the two get along so well, they want to spend the rest of their lives together and get married. However, Tyler did not want to propose to Nicole in a simple manner. Instead, he created a complex “Map Completion Challenge” in their hometown of Bellingham.
Nicole had to visit various locations and complete tasks. Among them were “Pet a starfish at the aquarium” or “Visit the art gallery”. For this, she received handmade puzzle pieces. In the end, there was an entry on the Guild Wars wiki, the site where players look for solutions to tricky quests.
… as a Marriage Proposal
On the wiki page, under “Legendary Journey”, Tyler’s declaration of love to Nicole could be seen. When she read the entry, Tyler proposed to her on his knees. Of course, she accepted!
In 6 months, the two plan to get married and move into an old farmhouse. The only concern they have is the internet connection. Because they still spend a lot of time together in Guild Wars 2.
