The Arenanet team has detailed the next patch for Guild Wars 2. Look forward to new story content, a fractal dungeon, a meta-event chain, and new challenges for fans of the convergences. And the best part: The update is free for owners of “Secrets of the Obscure” and will be released in just a few days.
What has been announced for Guild Wars 2? The new update for the current expansion “Secrets of the Obscure” is called “The Midnight King” and will be released on May 21, 2024. The contents of the patch will be available for all current and future owners of the addon for free.
You can look forward to the following features:
- In the new story chapters, the Commander delves deeper into the world of Nayos to the citadel of Zakiros, where the unyielding Midnight King reigns.
- Inside Nayos, you can expect an expanded area with a new meta-event chain as the highlight.
- In the Lonely Tower, you will find a new fractal dungeon.
- Look forward to the second rank of the legendary Obsidian armor set and six new relics.
- A challenge mode for the squad-based version of the convergences is coming, including a new boss challenge. Anyone who completes all five fights in time for gold will receive a new title alongside other rewards. The best times will be honored on a leaderboard.
- In addition, some minor improvements are coming. For example, you can change the color and shape of the crosshair for the action cam. Also, the limit for guild memberships will increase from five to six for all players.

Updates for PvP and “World vs World”
What else has been announced? On June 14, 2024, the developers will transition the world restructuring system into permanent beta status. The EU and NA regions will receive an additional rank to reduce the size of the queue during peak times.
In addition, the developers are increasing the limit for guild memberships from five to six to give WvW players more flexibility in creating or joining guilds for the world restructuring.
A new timer titled “Lock for the next team formation” will be found in the guild overview. This will better communicate when changes to the combat guilds will take effect.
What about PvP? On June 25, some improvements for comfort and PvP rewards will land on the live servers. To enable new build options, the devs are introducing two new attribute amulets: Heretic (+1,000 Power, +1,000 Precision, +500 Healing Power, +500 Ferocity) and Tyrant (+1,000 Power, +1,000 Condition Damage, +500 Precision, +500 Toughness). Additionally, there are now runes of the Ogre and of Torment.
Ascended armor and weapons are to become more affordable in PvP. Therefore, you can earn more Grandmaster tokens each season in the future. At the same time, the shard costs for purchasing ascended items will decrease.
