In early 2022, the new expansion End of Dragons for Guild Wars 2 will be released. There are still a few months to go, and in a new roadmap, you can see what will happen in the rest of 2021 and early 2022.
These are the highlights of the roadmap: For the last months of the year, Guild Wars 2 still has some interesting updates in store:
- Beta events for the new elite specializations
- The beta for the update to DirectX 11
- The first beta for the alliances in WvW
- Events for returnees and classic festivals like Halloween or Wintersday

What are the beta events about? In the coming months, there will be various beta events where players can test new features.
In each case, 3 of the new elite specializations that will be released with End of Dragons can be tested for a week. On November 30th, there will be a test during which all 9 specializations will be unlocked. The focus is mainly on trying out the new abilities and providing feedback to the developers.
For the beta events for DirectX 11 and the alliances in WvW, general changes to the game will be tested that are supposed to be released aside from the new expansion:
- The update to DirectX 11 is meant to improve performance and get more out of the engine
- The alliance update is intended to bring fresh air to WvW. Players have been waiting for this update for more than 2 years
Events for returnees and festivals are meant to keep players engaged
What is included in the events? From August until the end of November, there will be a special event that is primarily aimed at newcomers and returnees. During this time, episodes of the Living World will be highlighted for a week.
In addition, they will be available for free again, so you won’t need to pay extra gems to unlock them. There will also be new achievements that allow you to unlock a first precursor for the upcoming legendary weapons in End of Dragons. These achievements will remain permanent, so you don’t have to log in specifically during that week if you already have the episodes.

Additionally, this year will still see the annual events Festival of Winds, Halloween, and Wintersday. Each event brings special achievements and activities that players can enjoy. However, there are only slight changes compared to previous years.
Moreover, there are various events that offer bonuses for specific game content such as PvP or WvW:
- WvW bonus event: September 21 to October 1
- WvW bonus event: October 1 to October 8
- PvP league season 29: October 12 to October 19
- WvW bonus event: November 5 to November 12
- WvW bonus event: December 10 to December 17
