The next expansion for Guild Wars 2 might come sooner than many think.
The future for all currently major MMORPGs is clearly outlined:
- WoW is currently still on Patch 7.3 and will showcase the next expansion – either at GamesCom or BlizzCon
- The Elder Scrolls Online already had an expansion with Morrowind and is now scheduled to switch to smaller DLCs
- Final Fantasy XIV has just released Stormblood and the MMORPG is beginning a new patch cycle
- Black Desert continues to receive plenty of content and a release on PS4 and Xbox One is planned
- Guild Wars 2 has not revealed its plans for 2017 yet, but it is actually time for the next expansion. It should be released in 2017 and actually quite soon. So why is it still so quiet?
The next expansion for Guild Wars 2 could come very soon
Guild Wars 2 wants to complete Season 3 of Living World before shifting public attention to the next expansion – for which there are no official details yet. However, this should all kick off pretty soon. Perhaps even faster than we think.
The finale of Season 3 is coming on July 25 – after that, there should be nothing standing in the way of presenting the new expansion. ArenaNet is not ready to discuss it yet because they want to conclude Season 3 first.
Expansion for Guild Wars 2 could be released in September
However, much about the expansion has already leaked in advance. Especially the fact that Guild Wars 2 is finally getting mounts turned out to be the highlight of the large “Guild Wars 2 expansion leaks” in May 2017.
Now, two months later, there’s one of those popular “Oh, a retailer has already posted a date for the expansion” leaks.
This time it’s not Amazon.de, but buecher.de. A reader alerted us to this.
According to this “leak”, the release of the second Guild Wars 2 expansion is already on September 30, 2017. That would be a Saturday and therefore unlikely. However, September 30 marks the end of the 3rd quarter of 2017.
This could mean that the Guild Wars 2 expansion is likely to be released by then: the most probable release date would be “sometime in September.”
This is quite plausible. Heart of Thorns was released on October 23, 2015 – September 2017 is therefore a realistic date for the next step.
But of course: This is all unofficial. The retailer probably made a mistake.
