On May 14, the latest Guild Wars 2 story episode was released. With it came the new area Dragonfall to the game. And this area has really captivated the players: Some say Dragonfall is one of the best maps in Guild Wars 2 of all time.
What makes Dragonfall special? The new map, which came to Guild Wars 2 with the patch “Eternal War“, is currently receiving a lot of praise. Three special features are highlighted:
- the structure of the events
- the use of mastery
- the beautiful and diverse aesthetics
The combination of these three properties is causing quite a hype on Reddit. Players are overflowing with praise.
Reddit user One-Dos-San-Chaar refers to Dragonfall as one of the best-designed maps in Guild Wars 2.
A mix of Silverwastes and Dragon’s Resistance
What is special about the events in Dragonfall? Due to their event structure, Silverwastes and Dragon’s Resistance are among the most popular maps of the MMORPG, although their setup is very different.
User MartRane describes Dragonfall as a mix of these two maps. There are outposts where many small events need to be completed, similar to Silverwastes.
At the end of the event chain, players work together from different positions to fight an elder dragon, comparable to Dragon’s Resistance.
Are there good rewards on the map? Similar to Silverwastes, players receive keys for completing events. With these, they can open chests and obtain loot after completing the event chain. Inside, you’ll find rare materials, champion bags, and more.
Additionally, by defeating all the champions of the events, players earn the chest armor of the new Mist Shard set.
All masteries combined on one map
Since Heart of Thorns and Living World season 3, there are many different masteries like Gliding, using mushrooms, or the Heart of Oak essences. However, these masteries were usually only used in the respective episode.
But this is the case in Dragonfall: The latest Guild Wars 2 area, on the other hand, makes use of almost all the available masteries in the game. And in many places, their use is even worthwhile.
This is because the map is divided into three separate zones. In the jungle section of the map, mushrooms and Heart of Oak essences are worthwhile as the map is vertically structured.
Due to its size, ley lines and thermal tubes can be used effectively as well. Combined with the mounts and gliding, which can be used everywhere anyway, nearly every mastery in the game is utilized.
Players also appreciate this, as the post by sparcoevo proves. His praise for ArenaNet for bringing back the masteries is currently the Reddit thread with the second most upvotes.
New mount and the next legendary weapon
What’s included in the new patch: In addition to the map, you can look forward to further innovations with the “Eternal War” patch. One highlight is the new legendary greatsword Exordium, which is presented to you by the fansite Guildnews in a video.
