In Guild Wars 2, a player created a masterpiece in the guild hall. Nothing less than the Mona Lisa has been created as a shadow artwork through floating objects!
Guild Wars 2 does not have a “proper” housing system where you can build your own homes at will. However, what you can do is place a few things in your guild hall, thus customizing the guild meeting point to your needs.
The current example from Guild Wars 2 shows what blossoms can result when creative and patient players are at work.
Guild Wars 2 – Mona Lisa – Leonardo da Vinci with Shadow Brush
When you enter the guild hall of the player Alilinke, you should notice a large white wall that seems completely out of place in the hall area. However, as you get closer, the outline of the Mona Lisa, Leonardo da Vinci’s masterpiece, suddenly appears on the wall.

The giant painting is impressive in itself, but even more curious is the fact that you actually cannot freely paint on objects in Guild Wars 2. Rather, the entire image consists solely of shadows!
These shadows come from numerous freely floating objects that Alilinke has painstakingly placed at the right angle to the sun and the wall up there.
Guild Wars 2 – Over 50 Hours of Work for the Mona Lisa
As objects cannot simply be placed freely in the air, Alilinke had to build a kind of framework from other objects beforehand to place the actual shadow givers on it. A tremendous effort!
Overall, the artist needed over 50 hours to achieve the feat of placing all those objects at exactly the right angle. We have embedded the entire work in a video here for you. Enjoy watching and admiring!
Can you imagine putting so much work into a piece of art that actually brings you no gameplay advantage? Let us know in the comments!
