With Dragonflight, World of Warcraft gets a new feature: dragon riding. Many players drew parallels to the mounts in Guild Wars 2 right at the announcement. In a new commercial, Guild Wars 2 pokes fun at this very similarity.
What is this commercial about? The 30-second spot features the mount Sky-Scale found in Guild Wars 2. At the very beginning, the text “the best mounts in MMOs” is displayed – taken from a review by PC Gamer.
As the video progresses, it states: “Why should you wait to ride a dragon?” A clear reference to dragon riding in WoW, which will be introduced on November 28th with Dragonflight.
Discussions and mockery regarding the similarity of the two mounts have already occurred since the announcement of dragon riding. Both the flying animation and the dive have strong similarities to the griffon from Guild Wars 2. The aerial roll and the model, on the other hand, are reminiscent of the Sky-Scale. Both games also feature mount races.
Now the developers of ArenaNet are also making light of this with a wink.

How are the reactions to the commercial? Basically, many appreciate the humor of the GW2 developers. Additionally, the mounts receive a lot of praise from players because they have truly set new standards beyond just a speed boost.
However, there is also criticism and mockery for Guild Wars 2. Unlocking the Sky-Scale involves some tasks, the purchase of a DLC, and a timegate of at least 4 to up to 15 days.

Oh man! I just spent a few weeks learning the game! Time to find out what makes this mount so special. Oh! Only two weeks left until I can see if it is better than the dragon riding in Dragonflight…
It is quite likely that active WoW players will prefer to experience the dragon riding in Dragonflight rather than starting completely fresh with Guild Wars 2.
