Guild Wars 2, the MMO by ArenaNet, will receive an update in a few days that introduces a completely new reward system.
Currently, players have to complete a lot of tasks every day to collect all the rewards in Tyria – often including things they might not actually want to do, like PvE or PvP missions. The goal is to encourage players to engage with the content they really enjoy without having to miss out on rewards. From now on, daily missions will be divided into several categories: PvE, PvP, and WvW. In each of these categories, there will be several missions (currently it looks like 4 per category, for a total of 12). To receive the daily rewards, players only need to complete 3 of these tasks – whether they complete them all in one category or mix them up is entirely up to each player.
Once players have completed 3 tasks, they will also receive 10 success points directly – additional tasks can still be completed for extra rewards, but there will be no success points for them. This way, players should no longer feel pressured to complete every mission, even if they don’t actually want to.
Daily logins will be rewarded
The rewards of the old system will not be lost; instead, they will be incorporated into a second system: players who log in daily will receive a box containing better materials each time than the day before. This increases up to 28 times, after which players will receive an epic box that permanently increases the gold earnings of the entire account by 1%! However, if a day is missed, there is no need to despair; the “chain” is not broken, and even if players do not check the game for a while, they can simply pick up where they left off – until they reach 28 and start all over again.
The new system will come into effect on December 16th, but players who have collected success points for December from the old system by then need not worry: both systems will be active until the end of the year, before the new one takes over completely in January.
