“The future of Stronghold in competitive PvP depends on the community”
John: A new PvP game mode was the most requested feature by our players. They asked us to look at MOBAs, our own World vs. World mode, and the PvP mode of the original Guild Wars. We considered all of this, but in the end, we had to develop something that was right for Guild Wars 2 and our great combat system. This mode is Stronghold. And while it is a bit inspired by the mentioned areas, it does not play like a typical MOBA.
The future of Stronghold in competitive PvP depends on the community. One reason we didn’t jump straight into the Pro League when we launched Guild Wars 2 was that in a skill-intensive title like this, players, casters, analysts, and admins had to first develop their skills to compete at this high level. We believe the learning curve with Stronghold will be shorter, but we still need a community to build around it. We have received great positive feedback from the Stronghold betas and we believe we will make it.

Steve: Guild Wars 2 is a game that we hope will run successfully for many decades and continue to grow. PvP is an important component of this. The new Pro League is a long-term program that underscores our commitment to the PvP community. We will support the PvP fans as long as the game remains relevant.
John: Right now, we are fully focused on launching our expansion Heart of Thorns on October 23. It will bring a variety of new features and content, including Stronghold, the PvP leagues, and our Guild Challenger League. There’s a lot to look forward to, and all of this is just around the corner!
