“PvP is the fastest growing area of the game”
Steve: As previously answered, Guild Wars 2 appeals to people on multiple levels and growth in the competitive area is an important part of success. Guild Wars 2 is very successful with millions and millions of players. PvP is the fastest growing area of the game, and the launch of the Pro League with ESL is simply a natural evolution of this competitive game of Guild Wars 2.
Steve: Our goal is simple – we want to provide the competitive player community with the support to maintain the insane growth in which they are involved and has been driven by them. From the standpoint of a healthy community, we have noticed that we can sustain this better by getting more players to play PvP and enjoy it.
John: Our community is already known to be very friendly and open. New players who have joined Guild Wars 2 have experienced this culture and adopted this friendly attitude to a large extent.
But we also understand that the competitive level will rise with our new league system, and this may bring new levels of intensity, which can occasionally lead to frustration among some players – especially when it comes to elite play. That is one aspect of competitive play that we take very seriously and monitor. As an example, we will introduce a system where players who take out their frustration on others will be rated as dishonorable.

John: One of the nice things about Guild Wars 2, and something that sets us apart, is that you can play fast, short, and intense PvP matches with small teams – alongside that, you can engage in epic open-world battles on a large scale in World vs. World mode or simply explore the world with dynamic open-world events or experience the Living World releases with the regular story updates. It’s like having three games in one, and you can play in any combination you like. We value all of them, and all communities around the world are equal, regardless of where they play.
In conclusion, learn more about the future of PvP in Guild Wars 2. Will this path continue, and if not, what will it depend on?
