With the new update “Jormag’s Awakening,” an infusion has been introduced in Guild Wars 2 that lets a cute otter swim around you. In this guide, we at MeinMMO will reveal how you can get the otter infusion.
What kind of item is this? In the new update, you can earn a new ascended trinket called “Antique Norn Cloak Pin.”
This item has a special infusion. With this infusion, a ghost otter swims around you, though not permanently. The little rascal pops up repeatedly and then disappears back into the ghost water, creating small air bubbles.
This infusion is particularly cute, and MeinMMO editor Alexander Leitsch has already earned it.
Is the infusion difficult to obtain? Sort of, you need to complete a total of 3 achievements for it. The last one, “Otter’s Gravel,” takes some time but can currently be quickly obtained with a trick.
However, the positive thing is that you don’t have to spend any gold for it. However, you should have a positive attitude towards the new meta event in the Drizzlewood Coast.
We will now guide you step by step on how to get the infusion.
1. Olaf Olafson’s Secret
For the first step, you need to complete Olaf Olafson’s Secret. This is an achievement in which you have to complete 5 tasks in any order.
- Buy a map fragment for 5 gold and 350,000 karma from one of the vendors (Quaestors) on the new map.
- Defeat the Jormag’s Claw at the end of the map’s meta event.
- Defeat the camp guards during the meta event. These are enemies that appear between the end of the South meta and before the start of the North meta. They are the ones that always cause additional loot chests to appear after their death.
- You will receive the item from Norn or Charr chests. These are small, hidden chests on the map, usually located on cliffs and mountains. We have marked some positions in the image below.
- Received from one of the tribunes that appear during the North meta event. There are a total of 5 of them, and you must loot the chest after their death!
After completing these 5 tasks, you will receive 5 achievement points, and the next achievement will unlock.
2. Treasure Sniffer
The achievement Treasure Sniffer requires you to visit 6 locations on the map and first obtain a key and then interact with several treasure hunter NPCs. The order in which you talk to the NPCs doesn’t matter.
Finally, you need to enter the entrance to the hoard in the north. The easiest way to reach it is from the end chest of the Jormag’s Claw. There, you need to open several treasure chests, with the next achievement “Otter’s Gravel” only unlocking when you open the chest at the very back in the middle.
You can find the locations on the map, and the NPCs are illustrated in individual images for orientation.

The key: The key is located at position “S” on the map. There it lies underwater and must be collected by you.
The 6 NPCs: The NPCs are usually clearly visible on rocks, only number 1 is located down at a beach and number 4 up in the cave (easiest reached if you first obtain number 5).
3. Otter’s Gravel
The final achievement, Otter’s Gravel (engl. Significant Otter), requires you to collect 320 otter memories. You can obtain these in various ways, which we will introduce to you.
Recycling weapons: The most effective way is to craft and recycle “Charged Stormcaller” weapons. You need these weapons for an additional achievement, where you must have unlocked all 16 of them for your account.
However, to craft them, you need the recipes (which you receive through progress on the new map) and some materials. Crafting one weapon costs around 50 gold. Alternatively, you can currently buy them for around 120 gold at the trading post.
Recycling these weapons gives you 10 memories each.
If you recycle all 16 weapons, you will already obtain 160 memories (half of all) and simultaneously complete the achievement “Master of the Storms (50 achievement points + useful items + Gift of the Lightning Strike).”
The meta event: Through the meta event, you can earn some otter memories. For each defeated tribune (5 during the event), you will receive 3 memories each. For defeating the Jormag’s Claw, you will receive between 4 and 8 memories. The loot is available per run, and there is no daily limit.
This makes between 19 and 23 otter memories per complete run.
Multi-Loot Trick: Currently, there is a trick during the meta event that allows you to quickly get memories. Just park all your characters at the end of the event (e.g., with Teleport to Friend) and wait until you have completed the event on a map.
The final chest will remain for up to 5 minutes after the end of the event. However, you do not need to have participated in the event with the respective character.
It is sufficient to be in a group that stays on the corresponding map, and then simply log through all characters within the 5 minutes and open the chest each time. Based on personal attempts, you can achieve about 15 to 25 characters (depending on the duration of loading screens) in 5 minutes.
One event can bring you up to 200 otter memories.
You can also directly search for maps that have progressed further with the meta event and apply multi-loot again. However, there is a chance that the multi-loot might be fixed by ArenaNet in the future.
Once you have completed the achievement “Otter’s Gravel,” the infusion will be yours. Enjoy!
In the next step, you could try to collect all mounts in Guild Wars 2. There is also a guide for that here on MeinMMO.
