The new Guild Wars 2 patch “Bound by Blood” is here and it holds many tasks for you. However, anyone looking to explore the map or collect all the coins will inevitably face a riddle.
What is the problem in the Gorthmar Valley? In the middle of the new map, which was introduced with the prologue, lies the Shattered Steppes. There is a sight that is essential for map exploration.
It is hidden behind a door that you cannot simply open. Behind the door, you will also find:
- The achievement “Carving Hunt” with 3 achievement points
- The Ancient Grothmar Coin No. 5
- The beginning of the collection “Eyes for Ears”
- The Ash Training Course adventure
How do you get to the sight? To find the secret hideout of the Ash Legion, you need to interact with runes on trees in the War Hill.
You need to address four of the seven trees in the correct order. We have marked the trees for you on the map:
In what order must the trees be activated? When you interact with a tree in the correct order, you will hear a faint click.
The exact order cannot currently be said with 100% certainty. It seems to vary daily. Currently, the order looks like this:

What happens with the wrong order? If you interact with the trees in the wrong order, you will start to burn. It’s easy to quickly determine the order in which you need to interact with the trees through trial and error.
What else happens in the prologue? In “Bound by Blood” there are plenty of activities and tasks to complete. Additionally, there are many story contents and the first new assault mission.
