Skyscale
What can the Skyscale do? The Skyscale can, unlike the Gryphon, take off into the air on its own and can even hover there. However, you cannot fly completely, as it also glides slowly but steadily downwards with movement.
Through the masteries, you can swing into the air on the Skyscale and claw onto walls to recharge stamina.
How do I get the Skyscale? There are now two ways:
- Through Path of Fire and the Living World Season 4
- Through the new expansion Secrets of the Obscure
How to obtain the Skyscale through the new expansion and the achievement “A New Friend” is revealed here:
For the old way to acquire the Skyscale, you need all episodes of the Living World Season 4. There, you must first complete the mission “Descend” from the episode “Eternal War” and then speak with Gorrik on the map Dragonfall. This will activate the first of a total of ten collections.
For the collection “Newborn Skyscales,” you need to complete four “sub-collections.” Number 1 is “Skyscale Scales,” for which you need to collect 21 Skyscales on the Dragonfall map:
For the second sub-collection, you must acquire various items that explain themselves through their descriptions. Step 3 involves finding all sick Skyscales on the Dragonfall map.
Afterwards, for the fourth sub-collection named “Skyscale Eggs,” you need to find 21 eggs on the Dragonfall map. Afterwards, the “Newborn Skyscales” part and thus five of the ten collections are completed.
After completing many tasks in Dragonfall, you need to wait for one in-game day (two hours). Then collection 6 will unlock. In this, you must visit various locations and people accordingly to the elements.
Then, it’s about raising your Skyscale. For this, you need to find food and various items in a seventh collection. This part is relatively self-explanatory but takes some time, as you need to feed your Skyscale twelve times. However, this can only be done once per in-game day (every two hours).
In collection 8, you must visit Skyscales in various locations, including jumping puzzles and world bosses. However, these points can be skipped with “Especially Stinky Skyscale Treats”.
In the penultimate collection, you must craft a saddle. For this, you need:
- Elonian Sandpaper from Abbey Historian Elisa for 5 gold and 500 trade contracts.
- A Corsair Sailcloth from Alaleh in the Domain of Istan for 5 gold, 250 volatile magic, and 250 Kralkatite ore.
- Olmakhan leather from Ethall from the Sand-swept Islands for 5 gold, 250 volatile magic, and 250 disillusioned crystals.
- Especially sticky tar from Nalar in the Domain of Kourna for 5 gold, 250 volatile magic, and 250 engraved shards.
- “Lubinella Cadentis” silk from Hyacinth in the Jahai Cliffs for 5 gold, 250 volatile magic, and 250 Nebulon chunks.
- Deldrimor rivets from Kynon in the Thunderhead Peaks for 5 gold, 250 volatile magic, and 250 branded mass.
- Mist-infused saddle oil from traveling Elonian merchants in Dragonfall for 5 gold, 250 volatile magic, and 250 mist dust.
After that, for the “Skyscale Flight” collection, you need to visit rifts in various areas and fly into them with the Skyscale. Once this task is also completed, you will have unlocked the Skyscale.

Siege Turtle
What can the Siege Turtle do? This mount is designed for two players. The first player summons and controls the turtle. It can also hover above the ground and has a very “large turning radius”.
The second player controls the weapons of the turtle. These can fire accurately at a position and deal area damage there.
How do I get the Turtle? You need the End of Dragons expansion for this. There you need to complete the collection “Stomping Around.” An important part of this is the meta events in the new areas. You can find a detailed guide on the Siege Turtle here: How to get the Siege Turtle, the new mount from End of Dragons
Warclaw from Janthir Wilds
What can the improved Warclaw do? The Warclaw from Janthir Wilds is a very agile mount that can precisely and skillfully overcome any terrain and also offers unique combat and exploration skills:
- Chain Pull: Deals damage and pulls enemies closer.
- Battle Leaper: Commands the Warclaw to leap forward and perform an area attack that stuns enemies at the center of the attack.
- Sniff: Boosts nearby allies and detects nearby enemies. With mastery training, “Sniff” can also find treasures nearby. The Warclaw will then assist you in excavating.
- Spear: Throws a spear that deals damage and knocks an enemy down.
And these are the mastery ranks of the Warclaw:
- Nine Lives: The character takes no fall damage while sitting on the Warclaw. The Warclaw reduces fall damage by default.
- Cat-like Reflexes: You can jump farther by pressing the space bar again while in the air.
- Wild Claws: The Warclaw inflicts a hit on enemies when it passes through them while dodging. If at least one enemy is hit, the character gains endurance at the end of the dodge.
- Wild Fury: Increases damage as long as the character is sitting on the Warclaw. The skill “Spear” now stuns enemies and deals increased damage to the toughness bar.
- Well Rested: Increases the endurance regeneration rate for all mounts.
How do I get this Warclaw? Whether you already have the Warclaw mount from the WvW or not, you need to earn the new Warclaw through the Janthir Wilds expansion. The good news: You will obtain the mount very quickly when you encounter the Tiefland Kodan during the campaign. You don’t have to master a long quest chain.
