With Path of Fire, Guild Wars 2 introduced mounts. Since then, many players have been waiting for a mount that also works underwater. The developers are now fulfilling this wish – albeit in a slightly different way than expected.
What was announced? As PCGamer was able to exclusively announce, the Skimmer, one of the first mounts that you can earn in Guild Wars 2, is being revamped.
Instead of just “hovering” on the water, you will now be able to move with this mount beneath the surface of the water.
This gives the game its first underwater mount and fulfills a wish that players have had since 2017, even if in the end it’s “only” a revamp.

How will the Skimmer work in the future? In an initial video, the developers already showed how the mount will function in the future.
The Skimmer can glide on the water as well as dive into the depths. You can also mount it underwater at any time as long as you are not in combat.
Many players have previously believed that it fits perfectly into the beautiful underwater world of Guild Wars 2. The video confirms this view:
When will the Skimmer be revamped? The revamp is set to be released on August 25. To activate the revamp, you must complete a new collection and unlock a mastery.

The Festival of the Four Winds as a bridge event
What happens until the revamp? Before the Skimmer is revamped on August 25, the popular Festival of the Four Winds starts on the coming Tuesday, August 11.
There you can:
- Complete achievements.
- Compete in exciting races against other players.
- Fight difficult bosses in the Boss Blitz.
- Receive various rewards.
This should definitely bridge the time until the new collection.
