In Guild Wars 2 today, on October 29, the long-awaited Build Templates were released. However, after a certain number, additional storage must be paid for. Players, on the other hand, find the prices far too high.
What are Build Templates? Build Templates are a tool for saving a character’s skills and attributes. They can also be shared with other players via chat code.
This system also includes equipment templates, where the equipped armor can be saved. However, this cannot be shared with others.
The templates already existed in the predecessor Guild Wars 1 and have been requested for the successor since release. This request, whose fulfillment was announced at the beginning of the year, has now been fulfilled. However, players are not happy about it.
Players call Build Templates a scam
What is the problem with the templates? Even during the introduction of the new tool, there were discussions about monetization:
- Players only have 3 build slots per character and an additional 3 account-wide slots available for free.
- Additionally, there are only 2 free equipment templates.
- More slots require Gems to be purchased.
Prices have been officially established today. And against these prices, players are now in an uproar.
How expensive are the templates? The prices for additional storage slots are as follows:
- Each additional skill template per character costs 300 Gems, which is equivalent to 3.75 Euro.
- 3 additional account-wide skill templates cost 500 Gems, equivalent to 6.25 Euro.
- Each additional equipment template per character costs 500 Gems, equivalent to 6.25 Euro.
If someone wants to unlock the maximum number of skill templates for the account, they pay 50 Euro. If they also want to maximize their character, they should pay 11.25 Euro for the character templates and 25 for the equipment templates.
Players are angry: In a reddit thread calling for a boycott of the templates, the user MonstrousVomit writes:
This is such a colossal joke that I don’t even have to worry about my money. Not even my gold wants to come close to this garbage …
There are already more than 10 threads in reddit that talk negatively about the templates. So far, there are no positive voices, only a few that take it humorously, like the user Rivelon:
Don’t you guys have notepads?
He connects the joke around the last BlizzCon with the useful function of simply copying the build codes into a text file and thereby creating storage space for free.
But it’s not just the high costs that are causing anger among players. The features themselves also do not meet expectations.
What are the other problems with the storage templates? Due to the limited system, players have:
- Max 6 character-wide skill templates.
- Max 27 account-wide skill templates.
- Max 6 equipment templates.
Many players use more than 6 builds on their characters.
Furthermore, the interaction with the legendary armor and the associated runes and sigils is unfortunate. These theoretically allow for unlimited build combinations but take up an equipment template every time a small adjustment is made.
Players with legendary equipment, the most expensive and elaborate in the game, will probably continue to switch attributes manually.
The latest changes to the systems team, which also takes care of balance, actually created a good atmosphere. This is now first gone:
