Guild Wars 2 wanted to announce today, February 1st, the release date of the new expansion End of Dragons. However, the video was accidentally published too early. In addition to the botched announcement, players are also disappointed with the chosen release date.
What happened to the trailer? Guild Wars 2 is getting the End of Dragons expansion in February. This has been known since July 2021, but there has not been a concrete release date for a long time. This was supposed to be announced today at 3:00 PM.
However, the trailer was accidentally placed in a playlist too early, marked as “unlisted” and thus visible to everyone. The community saved it and published the trailer along with the release date on reddit.
When will the expansion be released now? End of Dragons is set to release on February 28, 2022. There is no exact time yet.
However, the announced date is not well received by many players.
Fans hoped for a Friday to game over the weekend
What is the problem? The last two expansions of Guild Wars 2 were released on October 23, 2015, and September 22, 2017. Both days were Fridays, which allowed fans to game for three consecutive days with just one day off, thanks to the weekend.
Many therefore hoped for a release on February 25. However, that wish was not fulfilled.
Many players see Monday as the worst release time, because they have to work all week before they can finally dive into the game world.
Is the day of the week the only reason for criticism? No, the release on February 28 is also seen critically by some players, as it is indeed the last day of the month when the expansion is supposed to be released.
They fear that End of Dragons could be released unfinished, just to keep the promise of February. Even with Heart of Thorns and Path of Fire, there was a feeling that the respective endings of the expansions seemed incomplete and “rushed”.
We at MeinMMO have already played End of Dragons:
No conflict with Elden Ring and quick bug fixes
Do all players view the release date negatively? No, there are positive voices, but they are rather in the minority on reddit. They are happy that they can use the weekend after February 25 for Elden Ring, the new RPG from FromSoftware.
Additionally, some players hope for quick updates and bug fixes, as End of Dragons comes out on a Monday, leaving many hours of developer work before the first weekend starts. For them, the late release time also has its positive sides.
How is the trailer itself received? The new trailer provides a good overview of the features and content of End of Dragons. It also shows the Etherblades, airships, the center of Kaineng as the new capital, and the Jade Bots as new technology.
There is praise mainly for the shown world bosses, including an underwater opponent.
What do you think about the release date of End of Dragons? Is Monday more of a problem or an opportunity? What release date would you have preferred?
