With the return of the King’s Fall raid in Destiny 2, Bungie has also changed some locations in the raid. A major mystery that caused many discussions among players 5 years ago finally makes sense. MeinMMO reveals to you what sporting secret the Guardians have discovered in the raid and what it offers you.
What secret is it about? For many Destiny players, the King’s Fall raid offered the opportunity to dive into old times. Bungie has visually revamped the raid and dusted off Oryx after 5 years. Therefore, the mysterious “basketball room” in the raid finally makes sense.
The room was once difficult to enter and the reason for much speculation.
- In 2015, players pondered for a long time about what Bungie might have hidden there and tried everything possible in the room.
- When the speculation and hype around the mysterious room wouldn’t end, Bungie announced that there was simply nothing to discover there, leaving the Guardians disappointed.

In the new King’s Fall raid, this is now different: Bungie hasn’t forgotten the then-enthusiasm of the Guardians and also their disappointment. Thus, in 2022, the mysterious room finally received the secret that many Guardians have always sought.
Now it’s not only fun to play basketball in the raid, but it also has a purpose. However, you still need to obtain a “little something” if you want to get the reward.
What reward do you get? Anyone who plays basketball in the raid in 2022 and completes the puzzle will receive the catalyst for the raid exotic “Malicious Touch”.
The catch is, however, that you first need the weapon itself. Its drop is, as always, pure luck, although some players have already received it from the final boss “Oryx” in the first week.
If you’re among the lucky ones who already own the “Malicious Touch”, you should definitely play a round of basketball. We’ll tell you how the puzzle works.
How to get the catalyst for “Malicious Touch”
First, you need to gain access to the secret place in the King’s Fall raid. Equip the raid exotic “Malicious Touch” and then gradually find three secret plates hidden in the raid. Your goal is to activate the plates to obtain 4 relics each. These must then be collected by your team and brought to statues.
As soon as the first relic is picked up, you have about 2 minutes to deposit all the spheres. If you did everything right, a message saying “A statue hums with dark energy” will appear on the left side of the screen.
To know where you need to go, here are the three locations:
- The first plate is located behind Oryx’s courtyard to the left in a building. The 4 relics appear throughout the starting area.
- You can find the second plate in the Labyrinth of Golgoroth. The plate is located in the secret chest room there. When the room is open, a player with the equipped “Malicious Touch” must stand on the plate to spawn the 4 relics. The statue where you need to deposit the relics is in a pit just before you reach the last corridor.
- The last plate is at the large plate-wall puzzle. There, you must stand on a series of plates to spawn platforms. The sought basketball court plate is here at the very end of the start of the jumping puzzle. Once you have the 4 relics, you only need to bring them to the statue to the right of the first door. (Entrance Golgoroth puzzle).
In this video tutorial, you can take a closer look at the paths:
Once all three statues have been successfully charged, you will have unlocked access to the basketball court in the King’s Fall raid. Upon arrival, the player with the equipped “Malicious Touch” must stand on the plate again.
This spawns 6 relics, which you can now use for “shooting hoops”. Just play for a while until the catalyst drops.
Did you already know about the puzzle of the secret basketball court? Or was this Easter egg completely new to you? And how’s your luck? Has the Malicious already touched you or are you still hoping for your loot luck? Feel free to let us know in the comments.
However, if you focus less on raid exotics and more on other weapons and exotics, you will currently have to endure some deactivations in Destiny 2:
