It is a sad occasion that currently unites the Destiny-2 community. Lance Reddick, John Wick star and voice of Commander Zavala, passed away last week. This touched the hearts of the Guardians deeply. He was more than just a voice actor to them. He was also a Guardian whose years of passion and loyalty to this game are unparalleled.
The greatest honor in Destiny 2 for a true Guardian: After last week’s announcement of the death of Lance Reddick, the English voice of Commander Zavala in Destiny 2, many players were deeply shaken.
The well-known actor had steadfastly guided them through all the calamities in Destiny since 2014 with his deep and soothing voice.
Online, players shared their grief: Although only 16 players can be together in the Tower, the hustle and bustle around loot runs has calmed down these days. Instead, the Guardians gather at the Commander of the Vanguard to honor Lance Reddick and the character he played.

Lance Reddick has won the hearts of the Guardians: As Commander Zavala and thus the supreme commander of the Last City, he lent his voice to one of the key figures. Not only because it was a job. He truly loved Destiny and had been a person who enjoyed joking with the players and granting them wishes for years.
The best anecdote of how Lance Reddick stood with the community is a somewhat too short dialogue.
- Bungie scripted in Season 13, the “Season of the Chosen,” that Lance Reddick as Commander Zavala should simply say “No” to the demand to bow. Many Guardians found that too little for a proud commander of the Vanguard.
The Guardians wrote their own version in which Zavala really put his foot down and made it clear to the Empress who was in charge on Earth.
In the end, it was Lance Reddick who then pleased the fans and read out the new answer that Zavala should have given. The clip was shared thousands of times back then and makes the loss even more difficult.
Reddick’s widow honors the Guardians’ condolences
One of us: Lance Reddick has contributed to many successful games like “Horizon Zero Dawn” and “God of War”, and his voice has always helped these games become classics. But Destiny has always been something special for him because he loved Destiny.
