Those who turn in their offering to Mara Sov in the Dreaming City this week will be faced with some familiar symbols: The triangular ships, which have sparked various theories for months now. Guardians might let out an “Oh Shit.”
This is different in Destiny 2 this week: Since the first team has successfully completed the new Forsaken raid Last Wish, a curse cycle is active in the Dreaming City that “resets” every three weeks.
This gives Guardians the opportunity to obtain the exotic bow Wishender and pay a visit to the Queen of the Awoken, Mara Sov.
However, what the Guardians currently see has once again sent the rumor mill into overdrive. A projection of the triangular ships has appeared. Every Guardian knows by now: They mean trouble.
This is behind the ships: The ships can now be detected in many images and cutscenes of Destiny and Destiny 2. What exactly they represent, however, remains unknown.
The scene perhaps most etched in memory is the climax of Destiny 2’s campaign: The Traveler has awakened.
The wave of light triggered by this activates an armada of triangular structures that seemingly awaken simultaneously with the Traveler and head directly towards the source:
What does the projection in Mara Sov’s throne room mean? Currently, there is only speculation about this. It is certain that the ships are of great importance to the future of the franchise. However, the timing and context of this renewed hint from Mara Sov are intriguing.
After all, the Guardians are currently in a celebration mood: Halloween is around the corner and brings a new event, and the Iron Banner is back in the game.
Until now, it was assumed that the triangular ships could be one of the cornerstones of the next Destiny installment: Destiny 3. However, Bungie seems to be providing small hints to ensure that the ships do not fade from players’ memories, but remain present.
Darkness is the “fifth element” of Destiny – in evil
These could be the triangular ships: The most popular theories describe the triangular ships as the personification of Darkness itself or as the transport vessels of the race representing Darkness. Bungie has already hinted at more than the four known races in the Destiny universe through artworks:
In addition to the already known Fallen, Vex, Cabal, and Hive, a new race appears, represented by triangular structures.
However, the majority of conspiracy theorists agree on one point: The ships that have appeared symbolize a new danger that we Guardians must face.
Whenever the ships actually reach our home planet, they likely won’t bring cookies.
