One of the most popular handguns in the Destiny series could make its return in Destiny 2 by the end of the year. Is the Last Word coming back?

Bungie has already officially confirmed the return of heavy machine guns and teased a machine gun that looks very much like the exotic Thunderlord from Destiny 1. Many also consider the return of the popular handgun, the Last Word, to be possible. And the fans’ hopes have recently been renewed.
Is the Last Word returning with the Black Armory?
What is the Last Word? The Last Word is one of the most popular handguns from Destiny 1. Especially in the Crucible, it was long regarded as feared.
The uniqueness of “The Last Word” lay in the fact that you had to fire it from the hip, meaning without using the aiming device, to unleash its deadly effect. This allowed you to quickly defeat most enemies in one-on-one at close to medium range in PvP with a series of headshots.
Its strengths included its immense penetration power and stability. It played well, also thanks to the fan fire – a perk that allowed fully automatic fire.

Reddit user predicts the return of the Last Word: Among the numerous rumors about the future of Forsaken currently circulating on Reddit, one particularly stands out. According to the Redditor AnonTheNine, both the Last Word and the Thunderlord will celebrate their return in Destiny 2.
According to him, the Thunderlord is supposed to return with the Festival of the Lost in October. But he also claims that the Last Word will come. Because when he was specifically asked by another Redditor whether the Last Word would return alongside the Thunderlord, he replied with the words “Black Armory” – referring to the first annual pass premium content in December.

However, his statement about the Last Word was deleted some time later – it is still unclear whether by a moderator or by the user himself.
How likely is this claim? Now, one might think it is just another rumor – just one of many. What makes this claim so special?
AnonTheNine has previously correctly predicted several details about Forsaken: Among other things, the nine new Supers, two new locations and the new enemies – all of that months before E3 2018. While this does not imply that he is right this time, considering these circumstances, his statement seems at least not completely unfounded.
What else supports the return of Last Word? Guardians have long suspected that the fan-favorite could return. Bungie themselves alluded to the Last Word several times before Forsaken – even if they never became concrete about it.

Moreover, the weapon itself and its lore are closely tied to the Western setting. Essentially, the Last Word is a weapon straight out of a classic Western: You draw quickly, fire swiftly, then reload. So it would fit perfectly with Forsaken, as the autumn expansion is basically a Space Western. Under these aspects, a return seems anything but unlikely.
And also in the English version of Forsaken, the term “last word” or “the last word” is often used, which some Guardians take as further allusion to the return of the fan favorite from Destiny 1.
What do you think? Will the Last Word soon return in Destiny 2?
