We spoke to a Guardian who has spent 6924 hours in the MMO shooter Destiny and he is not even in the top 25.
No question: People spend an insane amount of time in Destiny. If you check the page “Time Wasted on Destiny” , the record is 12,232 hours – that’s 510 days.
We spoke to the German player “Durle_the_Boss”, who has 6924 hours – that’s about 289 days. That is currently enough for 28th place worldwide.
Typical Destiny Career: From PvE to PvP
The Guardian says he was looking forward to the release of Destiny and was on time at midnight at the console. As a player, he had a career that is typical for hardcore players. In the beginning, he was mainly interested in PvE, where he gradually got deeper until he mastered the raids perfectly. Crota was defeated 800 times, often with newcomers in tow.

Later, when the PvE content in Destiny slowly dried up, he switched to PvP and achieved significant success there thanks to his endurance. Now it was mainly about getting Guardians to the Lighthouse, while raids became a side note.
Goal: Rank 1000 in the Crucible

In early 2017, he set himself the goal of reaching Rank 1000 in the Crucible and has pursued it with iron will. He believes he is the first German to have achieved such a high rank.
His tips for the Crucible:
- Especially in 3v3 you can only succeed together.
- Errors must be addressed, even if sometimes there is tension in the air after losses. Then it is important to stay calm and factual.
- It is best to set goals: “Today we will achieve flawless”, this creates tension, everyone stays focused. Personal goals, like reaching Rank 1000, provide additional motivation.
Destiny as an Important Anchor in Life
During the conversation, it becomes clear that Destiny plays an important role in his life. At the release, he bought a new LCD TV and switched from PC to PlayStation 4. His girlfriend was soon convinced by the shooter – after the release, the couple bought a second console and began exploring the planets together.
Apart from Destiny, the Guardian suffers from panic attacks. They limit him significantly. On good days, almost everything works out, but on bad days, he struggles to cope with everyday life. While others go to the lake on nice days, he has to make sure that he can even manage to go outside. The Destiny community has helped him regain new courage.

He says: Almost 7000 hours in Destiny, there will surely be comments like “You have no life.” Whether it is good or bad to spend so much time in Destiny is debatable, he says. It has helped him. He has met many people during that time. Some have become good friends. For that, he is grateful.
Destiny influences the lives of its players like few other games:
