In Destiny 2, players often try crazy things. This category includes the action of RockmasterJ. He set the latest player record by achieving almost 16,000 kills with his Super that lasted over 2 hours. No cheats or exploits.
Could this be the longest Super in Destiny 2 history? Player RockmasterJ wanted to find out how long he could actually maintain his Super. He set an amazing, at least personal record with his test this week (via YouTube.com). Exactly 15,843 kills were necessary to have Super energy for 2 hours and 23 minutes.
RockmasterJ used the following setup for his attempt:
- A Void Titan as class (Sentinel)
- As subclass, the bottom Void tree “Code of the Aggressor” with the Sentinel Shield
- The exotic gauntlets “Doomfang Pauldron”
This item was essential: For the attempt to succeed, the Exotic “Doomfang Pauldron” was essential. It causes Void melee kills to generate Super energy. So while the Super “Sentinel Shield” is active, melee kills recharge the shield throw, which extends the Super when hits occur. No cheats or exploits are needed for this.
How did he do it? It is essential to have enough enemies available for a successful record. In a normal activity, that is not possible. However, there are a few places in Destiny 2 where this is different. One of these locations is the “Thrall Stair” in the dungeon “The Shattered Throne.” Players often use this spot to farm catalysts or XP. On this stairway, the Taken Thralls spawn infinitely and just need to be taken down.
The Super is the ability in Destiny 2 that allows a player to unleash powerful offensive, defensive, or tactical forces when activated. Typically, the Super only lasts for a short duration and must then be recharged. However, there are a few classes and exotics that can significantly extend this time as long as enough enemies are present.
In the video of the record, you can see how RockmasterJ tirelessly uses his shield throw to send the thralls to the virtual afterlife. With each kill, his Super energy goes up a bit again, thus extending the duration. Essentially, he could keep doing this indefinitely.
Fun Fact: By the way, he apparently received all the power ammo from Destiny 2 during the record attempt that never seemed to drop for him in other activities.
The community acknowledges this endurance feat
On Reddit and YouTube, the community has expressed positive sentiments about the endurance of the attempt. Although they are a bit envious of the Titan for having officially achieved the longest Super in the game.
Player GamingFroU writes about it on Reddit:
You’ve seen the [Bungie] motto “Become Legend” and you’ve done it tenfold. That’s awesome!
Creed Design Co. jokes: “Bro, how many crayons did you eat beforehand?” to which RockmasterJ replies: “At least more than a handful.”
And what do the other classes say? The Hunter faction is obviously a bit chagrined. Jon Small (Hunter main) writes under the video: “Yeah, Hunters will never get [a Super] that can do that.”
By the way, there are more players in Destiny 2 trying amazing things. For example, grinding for a rare 4-fold 100 build for their character in 6000 hours:
“I can do this even longer!” RockmasterJ sees even more record potential in this personal success and is certainly ready to top his own record. As long as no other Guardian beats him to it. Essentially, anyone can replicate this, as the Super in combination with the Exotic is a completely legal method available to every player.
Whether this is really the longest Super in all of Destiny 2, we cannot say. But at least it is certainly one of the longest that has been shared in the community without the use of cheats or exploits.
What do you think about the record attempt? Is it really the longest Super in Destiny 2 or have you managed to maintain it longer?
