What’s the status of GTA 6? On March 23, 2024, a report emerged stating that the planned release of the highly anticipated GTA 6 early next year might be in jeopardy. MeinMMO reported that Rockstar’s management is nervous about making the early 2025 release.
On March 26, 2024, the original report by Kotaku was updated with further information, indicating that a release in early 2025 is now off the table. However, others doubt these statements.

What are the current updates? According to Kotaku, they have now spoken to additional sources. A launch in early 2025 had initially been feasible, but it is no longer the developers’ target. Instead, they are now firmly planning for Autumn 2025.
Some sources are optimistic that the new date can be met, but there is also the possibility of further delays. This could mean that GTA 6 might slip into 2026 after all.
The insiders also reported that Rockstar has significantly increased internal security and reduced communication within the company since there have been recurring leaks regarding GTA 6. As a result, the individual teams and departments in the company no longer have the same information regarding the release date.
The reasons for the delays are currently unclear. In a conference, the CEO of publisher Take-Two recently explained the criteria for determining the release.
Currently, contradictory information is also circulating: As journalist Mike Straw wrote on March 25 on X, formerly Twitter, he has also spoken with several sources. According to his information, development is “on schedule.” Any hint of a possible delay at this point is “pure speculation.”
These differing statements, however, coincide with the uncertainty mentioned by Kotaku within Rockstar’s workforce. Since both sides logically keep their sources anonymous, it is difficult to assess who is right.
