A gamer reports that his GTA Online account was hacked. When support unlocks the account and returns it to its original owner, he can hardly believe his eyes. Suddenly, he is a billionaire.
The story in brief: On reddit, a player posts a screenshot of his character standing in the casino. In the corner, you can see his stash of game chips: almost 2 billion. Players are quite astonished, but also warn. Because the newly minted online billionaire explains that his account was hacked and he still had the money in the account when he got it back.
Isn’t Rockstar Games stepping in? We’ll show you the details and reactions from the players.
How the player recovered his account
This is the whole story: On reddit, user MoistWave posts a screenshot from GTA Online on August 13. The title reads “I just got my account back after being hacked. And I have 2 billion chips in my account.” It is important to know that chips can be exchanged 1:1 for GTA dollars.
One of the fastest supercars costs nearly 3 million GTA dollars, but generally, cars cost less. With almost 2 billion GTA dollars, MoistWave could go on a lavish shopping spree.
You can see the huge stash of game chips in the following reddit content:
MoistWave explains in an interview with PCGamesN that his account was hacked while he was inactive and not playing GTA 5. “Honestly, I don’t even know what happened when my account was hacked. I didn’t notice because I wasn’t actively playing. I only realized that my account email had been changed when I wanted to reset my password. Since I got my account back, everything is fine.”
What do the players say about it? The story was often commented on reddit. Many are envious and would love to have such a fat balance in the game. With our 13 tips to quickly earn a lot of money in GTA Online, you’re on the right track.
However, many also advise caution because Rockstar would usually reset such money that may have been transferred to the account through cheats.
“This way, we find out if Rockstar monitors this subreddit,” writes Due-Werewolf-5825. Many other users agree with this statement with upvotes. About 6 hours later, MoistWave responded and wrote, “All good, I still have my account.”
Others write:
- “Go to roulette and bet 2 billion on red!”
- “Leave it there and only convert it to cash when you need it. Don’t take out large sums or buy everything in the casino shop and let Rockstar know nothing about it. Even if your account was hacked, they would probably just reset your account.”
- “Well, there are 2 visible names in the screenshot. Guess for yourself. OP got hacked and now wants to get banned. Those are Balls of Steel.”
So far, there has been no update from the surprised billionaire. Perhaps he took his money and got comfortable with El Rubio on Cayo Perico. How the account came to have so many chips is unclear. It is likely that cheats are at play.
At the beginning of the casino’s opening, there was a glitch with horse racing that Rockstar Games simply couldn’t get a grip on. Players filled their virtual accounts with chips for days because of it.
