In GTA Online the next-gen version for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S is now available. If you want, you can transfer from the PS4 and Xbox One to the new generations for free. But first you should know what consequences this brings.
What is new now? Since midnight on March 15th, you can now play the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S version of Grand Theft Auto V and GTA Online. If you were playing on the last gen, you can take advantage of a free account transfer.

What can you do? It is now possible to transfer your GTA profile from the PS4 or Xbox One to the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S. In doing so, you take your progress, cars, statistics, properties, money, weapons, clothes, and everything important with you. This transfer is available once.
This is the consequence: If you use this transfer, your profile on the PS4 and Xbox One will be wiped. If you want to continue playing GTA Online on the old generation, you will start from scratch and have to earn everything again. So make sure which generation you want to play your profile on now.
This also relates to the second point that is important for your decision.
PS4 does not play with PS5, Xbox One does not play with Series X|S
Who can you play with? If you are playing the PS5 version of GTA Online, you can only play together with other players who are also using the PS5 version (via GTANews on Twitter).
If you are playing the Xbox Series X|S version, you can only play together with other players who are also using this version.
- Players of the PS5 version cannot play with PS4 players
- Players of the Xbox Series X|S version cannot play with Xbox One players
If you use the transfer and want to continue playing with your friends, make sure that your friends also use the new version.
If you are playing the backwards compatible PS4 version on PS5, you can still play together with PS4 players.
Shortly after the release of the next-gen version, there was a problem with transferring. Players who had already transferred their accounts from PS4/Xbox One to PC could not use the new transfer and were blocked from the service. In the meantime, the problem has been fixed and the service is available.
Rockstar Games points out that GTA Online profiles from PC cannot be transferred to PS5 or Xbox Series X|S.
