A player cleverly hides from other players in a session of GTA Online and is celebrated online for it. The GTA player chose the most conspicuous way as a VIP and got through without any problems.
What did the player do? To win a certain type of mission in GTA Online, a player had to hide from adversaries tasked with killing him. Instead of choosing a particularly convoluted spot to hide, he took a different approach. Player “I_do_not_have_corona” donned typical clothing worn by NPCs in GTA Online and simply strolled along the sidewalk. Right in the middle of the day, clearly visible along the street.
The hostile players searching for him drove mere meters past him. But because he acted like an NPC and carried no weapons, the player went unnoticed. Brilliant!
He successfully deceived his opponents with this action. But right now, GTA Online itself is also deceiving its players, with a nasty bug at the Lucky Wheel.
Why couldn’t players see him?
Here’s why he hid: GTA Online offers a game mode for VIPs/CEOs called Executive Search. It’s a sort of hide-and-seek where a VIP/CEO must remain in a specific area of the map for 10 minutes:
- If the player leaves the area of the map or dies, the mission fails.
- If he survives the hide-and-seek, this week he could earn even 50,000 GTA dollars.
Adversary players try to kill the player within these 10 minutes. This is made more difficult by the fact that the mark of the sought player is removed from the minimap and the player’s name is only displayed when the person stands still. If they keep moving, the name won’t appear and it becomes much harder to locate and eliminate the target.
How are players reacting? On reddit, the post is being actively discussed and upvoted. The post received over 17,000 upvotes and more than 520 comments on the social platform.
Players write:
- “This man is too dangerous to let live”
- “Chameleon”
- “Legend”
- “I remember that was funny in Watchdogs multiplayer”
- “GTA Online should always be like this. No radar marking as long as you aren’t armed, so you can just chill”
- “100 IQ play here”
- “You could start a trend”
Another player found the idea so good that he wanted to replicate it. “That looks too damn funny. I need to focus my mission selection more towards entertainment like this, not on money-per-hour. Thanks for that,” writes NotABadMon. Shortly thereafter, he added to his comment:
“I tried it and got run over by 4 Khanjali tanks and they started griefing me. Forget it.”
This shows that while the idea is good, it requires a certain ignorance on the part of the adversaries to work. When tanks are in the game, it’s usually all over. The Khanjali tank is one of the 5 vehicles that every player should own in GTA Online in 2020.
