In GTA Online, a treasure hunt with treasure chests has started. You are supposed to collect 7 pieces, then you will unlock an outfit. For each chest at shipwrecks, there is money. We show you the 30 locations of the treasure chests on the map.
What kind of treasure hunt is this? Since August 26, players have been reporting that they are finding treasure chests in GTA Online. Dataminers have already found out what they are connected to. When you collect seven, you unlock a special pirate outfit. However, you can only collect one chest per day. And apparently, this chest is in the same location for every player each day.
Update from September 12: The article has been updated with today’s location. You will find the shipwreck today in the north near Paleto Bay. This location has existed in the past. We have included a screenshot of the map and the location in the article below.
Those who collected these outfits from day 1 should have now found the seventh chest and complete their personal treasure hunt. If you have collected seven outfit pieces, the pirate costume will be unlocked for you automatically.
You will then find it automatically in your wardrobe under the outfits of the category “Special”.
Treasure Hunt for 7 outfit pieces – Locations of the shipwrecks
Where should you search? The Twitter channel Wildbrick142 shared a map with 30 locations of the outfit pieces on the map of GTA Online. However, you can only find one per day (a real day – not a day in the game) and the location is the same for every player. So if one of your friends has found a chest that day, yours will be there too.
This is what the chests look like: If you want to participate in the treasure hunt yourself, you need to look out for small treasure chests. They are hardly noticeable in the game, so you should get close to the location. It’s easy to overlook them from the air in a helicopter.
If you are close to one of the treasure chests, you will hear in the game sounds resembling a glockenspiel. Additionally, your controller vibrates when you stand right next to one of the searched chests.
Look for the wooden boats that have washed up broken on the beach.
What does the treasure hunt bring? You receive 20,000 GTA dollars for each chest you collect. In addition, you get RP to increase your level. As a conclusion, when you have found seven chests, you unlock this special pirate outfit. This takes at least seven days, as you can only collect one chest per day. However, you do not have to do this on seven consecutive days but can take as much time as you want.
If there are no additional GTA dollars for the completion, you will at least receive 140,000 GTA dollars.

The treasure chest is located quite in the north of the map, near the arcade hall in Paleto Bay. On the shore, there is an area that goes far into the water. There you will find on the north side the shipwreck and just a few meters beside it the sought chest.

In the GTA Series video, all locations are clearly shown. Remember that you can only loot one chest per day.
In the north of Paleto Bay
The location is by Paleto Bay. In the north of the map, near Paleto Bay, a piece of the sea leads straight inland. There you will find the boat and the treasure chest.
Swamp by the military airport
The location is south of the military airport. In the swamp area over there, you will find a dock leading into the shallow water. Right next to this dock lies the broken boat with the chest beside it.
Southwest of the large airport LSIA
The location is very close to the runway of the Los Santos International Airport. On the shore, you will find the wrecked boat at the marked location. It is located between the large breakwaters, so pay close attention to it.
At the amusement park / under the pier
You will find the chest below the amusement park at the pier. So visit the pier and walk down to the beach to get between the many wooden pillars. Walk close to the water and pay attention to the bells you hear when you are near the chest. Right next to the broken boat is the chest.
Southwest of Paleto Bay
Here you need to travel far north on the map again. On the shore at a rock, you will find the chest in the water. Look closely or orient yourself by the vibration of your controller.
North of Paleto Bay
The location of the treasure chest is at the northern tip of the map. So if you are not currently up there, a flight with a helicopter or plane is recommended to cover the long distance. The chest lies visibly in the sand next to the boat.

In the west at the military airport
Here you can find it:
Right near the military airport. At a rock near the water lies the chest on the sand.
East of the military airport
Here you can find it:
The location is again near the military airport, but inland. Follow the river to the mark on the picture. There you will find the broken boat and beside it the chest.
West at the stilts houses
By the water at the stilts houses in the west of the map. Far below the military airport. Right at the rocks, the boat wrecked and lost the chest there.
In the east by the tracks
The location is in the north of the map. The marked point on the map will bring you very close to the chest. However, it lies in the water at a rock.
Power plant
In the east of the map, you will find a chest by the power plant. The rowboat is wrecked at the rock and the chest lies clearly visible on the shore.
Southeast of the military airport
The location is again near the military airport. Southeast of it, you can see an indentation in the world map where the water extends deeper into the land. The location is south of that.
At the pier
The shipwreck today can be found near the LSIA airport, right at the pier by the beach. The chest lies there quite conspicuously next to the boat and does not need to be searched hard for. For everyone who has been collecting the chest since day 1, this is now the seventh find. This unlocks the pirate outfit for you.
