GTA 6 will be one of the most successful gaming releases of all time, yet one of the biggest German gaming streamers on Twitch is not participating: Erik “Gronkh” Range will not go live for the first 1 to 2 weeks after the launch.
Does Gronkh not want to play GTA 6? Yes, Gronkh actually wants to immerse himself completely in GTA 6 for 1 to 2 weeks. He announced this in a stream on May 9, 2025, which can be viewed on Gronkh.tv. However, his fans will not be able to be there live, as the streamer announces that he will not go on air for at least a week after the release, possibly also two weeks.
During this time, he wants to play GTA 6 daily and take recordings. So it sounds like fans can at least look forward to an extensive Let’s Play on YouTube.
Gronkh assures, however, that Twitch will be full of streams about GTA 6 anyway. So viewers won’t be lacking in alternatives.
Anyone who wants to belong on Twitch will play GTA 6
Why will GTA 6 be so big on Twitch? The continuation of the legendary game series has been eagerly awaited for more than a decade, and the hype is already huge. Fans are searching every post from Rockstar for hidden clues and coming up with wild theories or examining the existing trailers frame by frame.
Experts even say that GTA 6 will not only be the biggest game of all time but also the most successful entertainment release ever, even overshadowing Hollywood blockbusters. It’s only logical that the title will also hit Twitch like a meteor.
After all, the predecessor has been among the 5 most-watched games on Twitch every year since 2019 (via SullyGnome). Many streamers started their careers with GTA 5 and built their careers on it. They surely won’t miss being around for the release of GTA 6.
Given the huge hype, even streamers who have not been too involved with GTA so far will hardly be able to avoid it. Anyone who isn’t established in another niche, like LoL or WoW, will probably at least take a look – because it’s important to be present at releases on Twitch to belong.
An industry veteran like Gronkh doesn’t necessarily need to belong on Twitch anymore and can afford to disappear for 1-2 weeks for the biggest release in gaming history.
Even though GTA 6 will dominate everything at release, there is a catch: As a single-player title, GTA 5 would never have stayed on Twitch for so long. It’s the roleplay scene that has kept the title relevant for years and helped some streamers break through.
Such games thrive on Twitch due to the synergies of streamers, which lead to absurd situations that end up in clip-worthy interactions. These can be repurposed on other platforms and lead to viral success. Recently, we saw this with a particular simulation game: The German Twitch now sounds like Breaking Bad because everyone is playing the new hype game on Steam.
Whether and when there will be roleplaying in GTA 6 is still unclear. So it could very well be that the initial hype fades quickly and only returns with the PC release and roleplaying servers.
