After years of waiting, it is finally here: The trailer for the next installment of the “Grand Theft Auto” series was released last night after a leak. In it, players get a first glimpse of the game world. As is typical of Rockstar, it will be gigantic. We explain where the journey is headed and how the community reacts to the announcement.
Where does GTA 6 take place? The game will, as is customary for the series, be based on our real world, but it will still offer a fictional setting for its presumably absurd storyline. In the surprisingly published trailer, we get a first impression.
Current information suggests that “GTA 6” is set in the fictional U.S. state of Leonida. Based on real Florida, players can expect sunny beaches, neon-lit nightclubs, dry landscapes, and much more.
Most of the gameplay time will likely be spent in the already familiar city of Vice City. We know it from the eponymous installment of the series, where we created chaos in the shoes of the iconic “Tommy Vercetti.”
Even before the trailer release, there were several leaks, including those from the son of a developer. It has already been hinted in a leak that there will be a larger lake on the map (via sportskeeda). Similar to its predecessor, “GTA 6” will allow players to escape the stressful gangster lifestyle for a few hours and relax with a peaceful boat ride.

What else does the trailer show? Those who have been paying attention may have noticed some map details within the trailer. For example, it already depicts the suburbs controlled by gangs, a swamp with a mud battle, a prison, expansive beaches, and the tallest skyscrapers. The gap between rich and poor will play a role again. Where our playable characters will be headed, as they shoot through Vice City in true Bonnie-and-Clyde style, remains to be seen.
How does the community react to the new map?
Since the trailer’s release, there has been much discussion on Reddit about the first images. The map is particularly noteworthy.
Many reactions are enthusiastic:
- The user “IHighlyDoubtThatMan” nostalgically writes: “I actually have tears in my eyes. Ten years ago, I was looking for GTA 6 videos on YouTube, and my stupid 12-year-old self believed everything I saw.”
- “ElectricFeel703” states: “It’s crazy how well they captured the look and feel of Miami.”
- Even small details visible in the trailer are enthusiastically highlighted, such as by Reddit user “NegKDRatio,” who writes: “I love this broken bridge. It’s going to be fun to ride over it on a motorcycle.”
- Typical for the series, local players, in this case from Miami, feel right at home, “FiresiteRS” adds: “Having lived my entire life in Miami, it’s very interesting to see places I recognize in the trailer.”
Consensus on Reddit is clear: the game world impresses right from the first trailer and creates anticipation for more. Especially the graphical implementation and the abundance of small details make past GTA cities like San Andreas or Los Santos feel forgettable, generating immense expectations already.
Only a few critical voices on Reddit warn against having too high expectations. User “BocaDelIguana” suggests that players should not expect more than a single large city and its surroundings.
In the upcoming content pieces that Rockstar Games will throw our way until the release, we will likely learn more aspects of Leonida and the capital, Vice City. Whether the metropolis and its surroundings can ultimately meet the high expectations remains to be seen until the game is released.
