Hope fades: Rockstar says that modders were responsible for the news about the release date of GTA 6. The news circulated in GTA 5.
Fake news: In the multiplayer and single-player sessions of GTA 5, news about a release of GTA 6 circulated in recent hours. The game displayed that the new installment of the Grand Theft Auto series is supposed to be released in 2019.
Clearly fake, right? Many players could not immediately recognize the news as “fake” because it was presented in a particularly credible manner. With special font size and colors, everything looked real. Here you can see the fake reports about GTA 6. However, Rockstar explains that this is just a hoax.
GTA 6 release was not real
Players asked support: On Twitter, players reached out to Rockstar support and asked if there was any truth to the news. They replied, “This is a false report created with the help of mods. This is not an official announcement or statement from Rockstar Games.”
Hope for authenticity was there: It was foreseeable that the news was not real. However, the hope for GTA 6 was so strong among some players that they waited for the official confirmation from Rockstar. Only then was the news accepted as “fake.”
There are still no signs of when Rockstar will present a new title in the GTA series. For now, the new Red Dead Redemption 2 is set to be released in October 2018. It would be unusual for Rockstar to plan a release of GTA 6 anytime soon, as that would only create unnecessary competition between their own games.
GTA 6 with Vice City? There have been many speculations in the community regarding a sixth installment of the GTA series. Allegedly, the new installment is supposed to take place again in Vice City, this time however with a woman in the lead role. One source claims that the release would be in 2022.
