The gaming community is eagerly waiting for more information about GTA 6. So far, little is known, not even the name is confirmed. Yet, the new GTA title is already breaking a record.
What’s happening with GTA? In September 2013, Grand Theft Auto V was released. With the associated GTA Online, it is the latest installment in the series. Fans have demanded a new installment for years, and in February 2022, Rockstar Games finally officially announced that the development of a new installment in the GTA series is well underway.
This caused a huge stir in the community. On YouTube, Reddit, Facebook, Twitter, and many other social channels, the news was widely shared and went viral. Without even the smallest official information about the game’s content, GTA 6 is already breaking a gaming record.
GTA 6 is the most popular on Twitter
This is the record: With the big news and the confirmation of work on the new installment of the GTA series, Rockstar Games earned the “most liked tweet of all time related to gaming”. In the tweet, Rockstar Games wrote on February 4, 2022:
“Given the unprecedented longevity of GTA V, many of you have asked us about the next installment of the Grand Theft Auto series. With every new project we undertake, it is always our goal to exceed what we have delivered before – that’s why we’re very pleased to confirm that development for the next installment of the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway.”
On May 6, 2022, at 1:35 PM, the tweet with 599,442 likes ranks first among gaming tweets. We include it here in the article:

Which tweets are also popular? In second place among gaming tweets with the most “likes” are tweets from Sony and Splatoon.
- Sony announced in June 2020 with a tweet that they would postpone the announced PS5 event, as it was not the right time to celebrate at that moment – The tweet has so far achieved 510,500 likes.
- In third place in the ranking of the most popular gaming tweets, there is a tweet from Splatoon, which was posted on April 22, 2022. It announced Splatoon 3. It has received over 364,000 likes so far.
- Outside the gaming theme, tweets have gathered many millions of “likes”. For example, Elon Musk tweeted recently, “Next, I will buy Coca-Cola and bring back the cocaine.” He received 4.8 million likes for the tweet.
- In 2020, actor Macaulay Culkin sent a tweet into the world, writing: “Hey guys, want to feel old? I’m 40. Here you go.” Many still remember the actor from his role as “Kevin McCallister” in Home Alone, when he was ten years old.
