The expectations for GTA 6 are huge. However, a former employee who has worked on many GTA titles is now expressing critical views.
Who is this? Obbe Vermeij worked at Rockstar from 1995 to 2009 and contributed to GTA Vice City, GTA San Andreas, and GTA 4. According to the GTA fandom, his position was Technical Director.
In a podcast, the former Rockstar employee was asked about his thoughts on the new installment of the series. His answer is likely to surprise fans.

GTA 6 will initially disappoint
What does he think about GTA 6? The developer does not believe that GTA 6 will make a significant leap forward compared to GTA 5. He says: “It looks like they [GTA 5] have essentially just further developed it, right?” implying that GTA 6 is simply building on the foundation of GTA 5 and expanding what already works well.
However, one scene seems to have stuck in his mind: “The scene that blows me away is the one on the beach, where everyone seems to be doing something different, as if each character has their own animation. I think that looks pretty great. But I don’t think it will be very different from GTA 5. I think maybe people will be a bit disappointed on the first day. But it will still be the best game out there.”
Even though the developer makes it clear that he doesn’t have any insider information about the game, he still has a good understanding of the current state of GTA 6’s development.
Why shouldn’t the difference between the installments be that significant? According to Vermeij, it’s due to the technological leaps that are simply becoming smaller. While technical progress used to move much quicker, that’s no longer the case. This is especially noticeable with the console generations for which GTA 6 is being developed.
GTA 6 is being developed for the current generation of consoles. The PC version will probably come a bit later as always. That GTA 6 may not impress fans as much at first as they expect is not the only concern among players. They also absolutely do not want to see a feature from GTA 5 in GTA 6: Fans fear: GTA 6 will have a feature that they already find annoying in GTA 5
