In December 2016, more players GTA 5 Online were active than in any other month. Such was the strength of the Christmas month in Los Santos.
Rockstar had the strongest month for GTA 5 Online at the end of last year. Although the game was released back in 2013, December 2016 saw more players using the GTA Online service than ever before. The developers announced record numbers and expressed a huge thank you to the community that has remained loyal to them for many years.
Record numbers for GTA 5 Online in December 2016
Rockstar keeps the online mode of GTA 5 interesting for fans by regularly releasing new free updates and DLCs. Most recently, the Import/Export DLC made its way into the game. This new content allows players with CEO status to trade illegally with cars. Cars are stolen, customized, and then resold for profit.
The Bikers DLC, which was released back in October, was also well received by players. This ensures that there is always something to do in the online mode and various ways to earn money.
The following statistics for December 2016 were announced by Rockstar on their official website:
- 11 million new CEO organizations
- 13 million stunt races played
- 15 million rounds of Juggernaut
- 24 million new motorcycle clubs
- 10 billion vehicle modifications performed
The statistics presented refer to players on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. According to Rockstar, the new special vehicles from the Import/Export DLC were also well received by the community. New updates planned for 2017
In recent days and weeks, rumors circulated online suggesting that Rockstar would release few to no updates for GTA 5 Online in 2017. The reason for this would be, among other things, that they are focusing on Red Dead Redemption 2 and are no longer concentrating on Grand Theft Auto. Rockstar may be attempting to counter these rumors with the announcement on their official website. It states:
