GTA 5 and GTA Online will receive the Next Gen version for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on March 15. We’ll show you what you need to know for the release.
What’s happening in GTA? For the current consoles PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, Rockstar Games has polished the single-player of Grand Theft Auto V and the contents of GTA Online. With a new version for the consoles, there’s another release of the game, nearly nine years after its initial release on PS3 and Xbox 360.
The new content is available in a standalone version of GTA Online, but also as an update. We’ll show you everything you need to know for the release here in the overview.
Next Gen update for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC at a glance
When? On March 15 around midnight, likely. Players in New Zealand can start as early as March 14 at 12:00 PM German time.
How much does it cost? The standalone version of GTA Online is set to cost €19.99. On PS5, you can get the standalone for free for three months.
When does the preload start? Pre-order customers can download the game now.
How large is the download? On PS5, you will need to download about 86 GB. On Xbox Series X|S, you will download about 94 GB.
Are there physical versions as well? Yes, they will be available in stores starting in April.
What changes? Resolution up to 4K, framerate up to 60 FPS, HDR options, ray tracing, faster loading times, 3D audio.

Important graphics updates: Visually, you can choose between three modes in the story version.
- The Fidelity Mode provides the best graphics at lower FPS
- In the Performance Mode, more emphasis is placed on FPS rather than resolution
- For a middle ground, there is the Performance-RT Mode.
What changes in GTA Online?
- On the latest console generation, there is the Career Builder. Here, you choose a type of career that suits you and are equipped with a business property, a vehicle, and a weapon.
- You choose between Executive, Arms Trafficker, Nightclub Owner, or Biker
- After choosing the career, you receive 4 million GTA dollars as starting capital.
- In the Car Meet, “Hao’s Special Works” will be available. There you will find new vehicle upgrades, special races, and premium test drives.

If you are new to GTA Online on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S or on PC, we have prepared some help for you.
Money: The most important thing is to fill your account. This can be done with heists or different businesses as a biker boss or CEO. To buy new luxury cars, weapons, or armor, you need to have money in your account.
Weapons: You shouldn’t buy “all” weapons because they quickly clutter your weapon wheel and make it confusing. While you can reorganize them at the armory and remove unwanted guns, they will all be back in missions.
