The Twitch streamer Micheal “MckyTV” Doleys is quitting – or something like that. Before he does, he wants to hold a streaming marathon. His streaming colleague Erik “Gronkh” Range can’t understand the decision and finds Mcky’s behavior “disgusting.”
What is the situation with MckyTV?
- MckyTV, one of the larger streamers on German Twitch, announced on March 31, 2024, that he is ending his streaming career.
- For his farewell, Mcky wants to make it a big deal and host a Subathon with no end – as long as fans sign up for paid subscriptions, the stream will continue.
- This led to criticism from viewers and streaming colleagues: Mcky seems to want to cash in one last time, they said.
In his stream on Friday, April 5th, Gronkh commented on Mcky’s farewell plans and expressed a clear opinion.
Gronkh says the Subathon is “emotional blackmail”
What does Gronkh have to say? Gronkh describes the decision to stop streaming while still wanting to hold a streaming marathon as contradictory. Mcky would be “emotionally blackmailing” his fans, according to Gronkh. If they want to continue watching him, they have to pay. He finds this “disgusting.”
“The whole thing just made me angry,” rants Gronkh. “That was really disgusting. What a horrible exit.”
Gronkh also suspects that Mcky’s farewell will not be permanent: he is sure that he will return after one to two months.
He also refers to Mcky’s “questionable” action from March of last year: at that time, the streamer boasted about rejecting a deal with the controversial streaming platform Kick worth $8 million.
After the Kick streamer Scurrows expressed doubts about the deal, Mcky admitted that the offer was “somewhat far-fetched.” Although he had indeed received an offer, the sum was calculated over a longer period (via X.com).
Apparently, this is now a reason for Gronkh to doubt Mcky’s credibility. He also cites the controversial opinion blogger KuchenTV, who had already criticized Mcky for his alleged Kick deal and has now released another video regarding the streamer’s farewell.
In fact, Mcky would not be the first streamer whose retirement from streaming ultimately turned out not to be as permanent as initially thought. Turner “Tfue” Tenney rose to fame with Fortnite on Twitch and was even considered the best player in the world.
In the summer of 2023, he announced that he wanted to step back. His reasoning was similar to Mcky’s: he had been doing this for so many years, the majority of his life had taken place in front of a screen. In November, the Fortnite star celebrated his big streaming comeback and has since been on Twitch and Kick.
