Godfall is a new action RPG for PS5 and PC. It releases on November 12. However, even beforehand, some websites were able to test the game and publish their reviews in time for the lifting of an embargo around the PS5. However, on Metacritic, Godfall is not doing well.
What is Godfall? In the action RPG, which the developers themselves refer to as a “loot slasher,” you take on the role of a god-like warrior. As this character, you slash your way through hordes of monsters led by the insane god Macros.
You use a special class system. By switching the Valorplates, a specific equipment, your playstyle changes. This is somewhat similar to Warframe. You can play either alone or with up to 2 other friends cooperatively. However, you must be online at all times to play.
Why is the game so interesting? Godfall generated buzz with its “next-gen graphics” beforehand, even though the trailer did not belong to the PS5.
Moreover, it is one of the few exclusive titles that will be released for the PS5 at launch.
What do the first reviews on Metacritic say? Before the official release of the game, several reviews have already appeared, of which 6 are also listed on Metacritic.
Currently, on November 11 at 14:30, Godfall has a score of 62/100. This score is significantly lower than games like Watch Dogs: Legion (75) or even Marvel’s Avengers, which at least launched with a score of 72. This has since fallen to 68.
Besides the final ratings, there have also been numerous reports that are still being completed. In these, Godfall does not fare well either. However, further tests may still strongly influence the score on Metacritic due to the currently low number of tests.
The current rating of 62 is thus just a snapshot.

What is praised? Great praise is given for the combat system. It is said to feel fantastic and to be responsive. One should really feel the impact of the attacks. It is said that Godfall comes very close to the battles of God of War.
The skill trees, which are said to bring variation to the playstyle, are described as diverse and deep. Furthermore, the boss fights and the general idea with the loot system are praised.
The website God is Geek also emphasizes the accessibility of Godfall.
What is criticized? Early in the game, it is said to become very grindy. Compounding this, all missions, tasks, and fights are said to feel the same. Reviews report that many enemies and mechanics are frequently reused, which leads to boredom quickly.
Even though the concept of a loot slasher is well received, the loot generally fails to impress. Digital Trends compared the game more to Diablo than Destiny, but the loot spiral simply does not impress.
