The Twitch streamer Max “Trymacs” Stemmler is currently undergoing a very special Pokémon challenge, but it seems to be more difficult than expected. Because even when he is not streaming, he continues to try his hand at the challenge, but goes to bed disappointed every night, as he says.
What kind of challenge is this? Trymacs has made it his mission to complete the Pokémon game SoulSilver in a very special way. He only wants to catch shiny Pokémon.
Shiny Pokémon are Pokémon that have a different, rarer coloration than the original. They spawn very rarely; in the edition that Trymacs is playing, the probability is about 1:8192, according to PokeWiki.
By now, the challenge has become so difficult for him that he reacts to videos in his streams while doing it. He also tries it outside of the Twitch stream and sits down at night to continue hunting.
Trymacs fails every day
Since the last video on the shiny challenge, as it is called by Trymacs, is already some time ago, a viewer demanded an explanation from the streamer in a past Twitch stream (highlight on YouTube). The streamer responded with the following:
Every time I go to sleep, it doesn’t matter what I’m doing: Whether I stream for ten hours or spend the evening with my girlfriend, at night from 1 to 3:30 AM, I’m sitting here alone in the dark at my PC, watching some series or movie, shiny hunting, nothing comes, and I go to bed after a brutal defeat.

He further stated that he has already had 13 sessions in the last three weeks and that he always goes to bed “excessively broken” (via YouTube). This is not only bad because he doesn’t catch shiny Pokémon, but also because it is the last thing he does during the day.
How difficult such a Pokémon challenge can be was also demonstrated by the Twitch streamer SmallAnt. Four years ago, he attempted the exact same challenge as Trymacs (seen on YouTube) and needed over 58 hours in total, having to reset the game 16,884 times to finally succeed.
It remains to be seen whether Trymacs will need just as long or even longer for the challenge.
Trymacs not only plays Pokémon, but he also previously dedicated himself mainly to opening booster packs of Pokémon trading cards. Since he has already drawn many rare cards from some packs, he wants to have their value determined accurately, but this is proving to be more difficult than expected: Trymacs wants to show off how much his Pokémon cards are worth, but a company does not want to help him
