Gloria Victis is an MMORPG that probably doesn’t have many players on their radar. However, recently, the popularity of the online game has been rising.
For over two years, the medieval MMO Gloria Victis has been languishing in Early Access. The player numbers were low, and the reviews on Steam were rather mediocre. Until suddenly everything changed in the summer.
How many players does Gloria Victis have? The MMORPG now has, according to Steamcharts nearly 600 players at peak on the server daily. Before, it mostly hovered around approximately 200 players. Compared to large games, this is a relatively small amount, but for an indie MMO, it represents a significant jump, making it feel much livelier. All players are in one instance.
A neglected hidden gem?
What is Gloria Victis? Gloria Victis is an indie MMORPG set in a so-called “low-fantasy” world. That means the world is inspired by our medieval times, without magic or supernatural powers as well as monsters.
- You act in an open sandbox world
- PvP is generally possible everywhere
- There are large siege battles between players
- It is necessary to conquer and defend territories
- Crafting plays an important role
- The battles occur in an action-based “non-targeting” combat system
- You develop your hero without classes based on skills

Why has the game been largely ignored? Gloria Victis launched in Early Access in 2016 and is still in this phase. Back then, it was a very early version of the game, which the small Polish indie team wanted to use to gather revenue for further development.
The game was simply still completely unfinished, and it still is even now, more than two years later. Since the team is small, development takes time. Many players find this too long. However, those who have remained loyal have noticed many improvements and changes over the years.
Players appreciate the hard work of the developers
What has happened now? Since July, there has been a steady increase in player numbers. The reviews on Steam have also improved significantly. Currently, these are “mostly positive” for the past 30 days. In the forum and in the reviews, fans have been expressing their enthusiasm about how many advancements the MMORPG has made:
- Steam user Zergjerk writes: “The game has experienced many improvements. Six months ago, I tried it with friends, and it was “meh”. But now I like it very much.”
- MagicalBiz says: “I’ve been playing this game for a few days, and I must say it really shines in PVP.”
- Mr_Kawoosi explains: “Gloria Victis is definitely a beautiful and great game; it has huge potential, and I am sure it will be one of the best games in the future.”
- Obsydian7 on Reddit: “The game feels more like an MMORPG with 600 players than many other MMOs with higher player counts”

Of course, there are still problems. After all, it is a game in Early Access. But if you look at the negative reviews on Steam, they mostly concern technical issues like crashes, lags, or bugs. And that is actually normal in such an early development phase.
What is behind this turnaround? The development team is diligently working on the game. Regularly – actually every month – larger and smaller updates are released. New features are introduced, problems are addressed, and feedback from players is taken into account, leading to continuous adjustments and changes.
