The MMORPG Gloria Victis (PC) has been in Early Access on Steam for several years, but has now transitioned from Alpha to Beta. This shifts the focus of development. Moreover, the release is expected to take place in just a few months.
What kind of MMORPG is this? Gloria Victis is an indie MMORPG set in a medieval world. However, it aims for realism, so you will have to forgo spells, giant monsters, and flashy effects.
Instead, the sandbox aspects are in focus:
- You manage huge castles and must pay attention to the morale of the inhabitants
- Other players can besiege and conquer the castles
- Generally, PvP is possible everywhere in the world, with Gloria Victis relying on an action combat system
- There are PvE content like group quests, events, and raids
- Crafting plays an important role
- You develop your heroes based on skills. There are no classes

Gloria Victis – An MMORPG for medieval fans
Who is the MMORPG interesting for? Gloria Victis primarily targets PvP and medieval fans who do not place a strong emphasis on graphics. It is evident that Gloria Victis is developed by a small team.
The MMORPG is also Buy2Play (costs 19.99 euros on Steam) and offers a shop with cosmetic upgrades. There is no Pay2Win.
A glimpse into the game is provided by the YouTuber TheLazyPeon, whose video was recorded in January 2020:
How is the MMORPG performing on Steam? The MMORPG has been in Early Access on Steam since 2016. In recent months, it has consistently had around 320 active players, with peaks of up to 520 online at the same time (via Steamcharts).
Although that doesn’t sound like a lot, the community is very engaged and rates the game positively (71% positive votes from 4,104 reviews).
What is changing in the game? As the developers announced in their 250th Weekly Update, Gloria Victis transitioned from Alpha to Beta on December 3.
This shifts the developers’ focus and is intended to bring the MMORPG closer to completion. The Beta is expected to last “a few months” and then lead to leaving Early Access.
Increased focus on optimizations – New content is planned
What does the Beta mean? The developers are now focusing on bug fixes, optimization, performance, and technical updates. They also intend to pay more attention to player feedback.
Only part of the team is still working on new features. However, the developers view Gloria Victis as a “Game as a Service” and intend to implement regular updates during and after the Beta.
What happened with the transition to Beta? With the Beta, a new “Glory Season” began, and the leaderboard was reset. It’s a good time to start with the MMORPG. Additionally, there were numerous bug fixes and small “Quality of Life” adjustments.
Gloria Victis has so far only been released on Steam. It is among the smaller MMORPGs on the platform. However, we will also reveal which are the largest titles on the platform:
