The new old-school MMORPG Broken Ranks comes from Poland and will soon enter the next beta. The second open beta is planned for September. Especially fans of tactical battles and a comprehensive story should keep an eye on this MMORPG.
What kind of game is this? In the MMORPG Broken Ranks, you take on the role of a refugee. Your realm, Taern, has been overrun and devastated by the hordes of Utoria. Countless inhabitants have been murdered or enslaved, and only you and a few others managed to escape and are now homeless.
During the course of the story, you learn more about the background story of your character and the NPCs from the game. You fight as freedom fighters against the invaders from Utoria and must unite the shattered realm behind you to rebuild it together.
The Polish developers want to convince prospective players mainly with the combat system and the story. In a first beta of Broken Ranks, players could already get a closer look at the game. The second open beta is expected to follow in September.
Tactical battles are a specialty among MMORPGs
What are the battles like? The battles do not take place on the main map, but instead in their own combat screen, as one might know from classic Japanese RPGs.
On the world map, you move around in real-time, but when it comes to battle, the game switches to a special combat mode. This is reminiscent of games like Temtem, where you also switch to a battle mode.
The battles are turn-based, and you fight either alone, with AI companions, or with other human players. In one round, you have ten seconds to plan your actions. You can choose from abilities or counter enemy attacks.
What else does the game offer? In addition to tactical battles, the game also aims to provide plenty of exciting tasks with decision-making options.
The game itself is structured and based on experiences from the first beta, leaning more towards old-school games. You explore cities and ruins in isometric perspective, either alone or in a group, and fight opponents. There will also be PvP in the future.
Where can you download the game? You can download and register directly on the official website (via BrokenRanks.com). The second beta is expected to take place on Windows PC like the first beta, with an Android and Mac version to follow in the future.
If you already have an account for Pride of Taern (another game by the developers), you can also use this for Broken Ranks.
As of now, a Steam release is not yet planned and there is also not yet a German version. The first open beta was in English.
