Frostpunk 2 is an apocalyptic city-building game where players are responsible for the survival of a city. To do this, difficult decisions must be made. The predecessor, Frostpunk, is rated 92% positive on Steam. A gameplay trailer showcases the game’s grim atmosphere.
What kind of game is this? Frostpunk 2 is the sequel to the dark city-building game from 11 bit studios. While in the first part you were responsible for the survival of a small group of people, you now guide, 30 years later, in the role of the magistrate, the fate of a growing metropolis.
In doing so, you have one goal that you should never lose sight of: the city must not fall. Even if sometimes you have to make difficult decisions to achieve this.
Frostpunk 2 was announced in 2021 and is set to be released in the first half of 2024. According to a press release, it will be available on day one in the PC Game Pass and will also be playable in the Xbox Game Pass with the Xbox launch. With the first gameplay trailer, the developers now present initial impressions of the game.
Trailer gives chills and stress
What kind of trailer is this? The first full gameplay trailer for Frostpunk 2 impresses with a dark, almost suffocating atmosphere. Almost prayer-like, the inhabitants present their concerns to the magistrate, but the mood quickly shifts.
Because the magistrate cannot please everyone, and the despair of the citizens, when there is not enough work and food for all, can quickly turn into anger. Thus, the trailer ends with a burning city.
The pressure the player will be under is already evident in the trailer – and it seems to be resonating well with fans. About an hour after its release, the trailer has over 6,000 likes with only 5,400 views (as of 16:35, via YouTube). While there may be a technical explanation for this, potential players are also showing positive sentiments in the comments:
- theherald1734: “I always get chills when people scream and plead for their needs. I hope it has the same dark, dystopian feel as Frostpunk 1.”
- vrad1shr6: “The transition from a dark gray menu to a milky gray is a very good idea. I hope the project releases soon.”
- jasondarkman6541: “I already feel stressed just watching the trailer. I can’t wait to experience real stress in the game.”
In Frostpunk 2, the developers want to explore the nature of humanity – no decision should ever be purely good or bad. MeinMMO editor Benedict Grothaus has already taken an initial look at the upcoming game and suggests: Anyone wanting to wrestle with difficult decisions should definitely play Frostpunk 2.
