In Apex Legends, some players are affected by a glitch in their matches that gives them a whole new gaming experience. However, they will probably never be able to play the corresponding mode.
This is what the glitch does: Some players are occasionally affected by a glitch that changes their camera position. The camera then no longer shows the first-person perspective but the third-person perspective.
However, the glitch seems to occur only when one’s own team has already been eliminated. Instead of returning to the lobby, players find themselves on an empty map without opponents.
The reddit user Spaghetti4Brekky posted a video about this:
How does this happen? The reason is probably a bug. The user Armetron explained that the camera is stuck in a state that shows it in third person when respawning with the ship.
The camera is now waiting for the command to return to first person – which will never come because the ship never appeared.
A mode that can never be played
Will this come as a new mode? Battle Royale competitors like PUBG already offer players the option to play in third person. However, the lobbies are usually strictly separated.
Apex Legends, however, has only had a first-person mode since its release. This will probably not change. Respawn has no plans to ever release another variant.
Instead, the team is currently experimenting with other modes, such as the Solo mode of the “Iron Crown” event or the currently running Zombie mode “Shadowfall” in the Halloween event.
Advantages of the third person: In third person, players have the advantage of having more overview. They can see better behind them, have a better all-around view, and can even look around corners if the environment and the game allow it.
As a result, opponents can be easier to locate or surprise, especially if traps are set at dangerous corners. Players must proceed even more cautiously than they already do.
However, there are often complaints about the third person in battle royale games, or annoying bugs may occur. The community is rather hoping for a solid solo mode or the option to join with a different group size than three players.
