After its release in 2017, Ghost Recon Wildlands is now receiving the final patch with major changes. This includes the unique Mercenaries game mode for 8 players.
Why is this the last update? On the Ghost Recon Wildlands website, Ubisoft states that the release of Breakpoint is coming in October, and they want to thank Wildlands players with one last major update.
Apparently, the team will then focus largely on the successor title Ghost Recon Breakpoint. Major updates like Ghost War or appearances of legendary characters are not to be expected afterwards.
Here are the contents of the update: The new game mode Mercenaries is the focus of the new update. It is a PvPvE mode for 8 players. There are various mercenary items as rewards. Some improvements and bug fixes round off the update.
Mercenaries Game Mode in Wildlands – Guide
What kind of mode is this? With a total of 8 players, you should request an extraction and find out where the pickup zone is located. You must reach it and be the first to enter the helicopter to win.
How is Mercenaries played?
The mode is divided into several phases:
Phase 1: At the start, you have neither weapons, items, nor other equipment. Your job is to locate the area of the pickup zone using transmitters. You can find weapons and gear in containers scattered throughout the map. If you prevail against the other players and activate 3 transmitters, you will see the location of the pickup zone and start Phase 2.
Phase 2: The helicopter flies to the landing zone after 3 transmitters are activated. Once it has landed, all players can see its position. Then Phase 3 begins.
Phase 3: To be able to fly in the helicopter, you must first fill a gauge. You fill this by staying in a certain area around the helicopter. If your gauge is full and no other players are in that area, the helicopter will take off with you.
As always, good tactics are rewarded in Wildlands. To track down transmitters, you need to find information markers. You have the following options:
- See the position of other players briefly
- See the position of weapons and equipment
- See the position of a vehicle
Use this information wisely to win the match.
Rewards for Mercenaries
Just for trying out the game mode, you will be rewarded with a “Lone Wolf” costume.
For a certain number of victories, there are additional rewards:
- 1st Win: Mercenary Badge
- 3rd Win: Mercenary Pants
- 5th Win: Heavy Mercenary Vest
- 6th Win: Heavy Mercenary Armor Vest with Shoulder Pads
- 8th Win: Mercenary Backpack
- 10 Wins: Mercenary Army Jacket
