In Ghost Recon Breakpoint , Ubisoft has released a very special “Live Action” trailer: Rapper Lil Wayne and his crew play the shooter. Action in the style of John Woo combined with the depths of gamer everyday life creates an amusing mix. Some players are already saying the trailer is better than the beta for the game.
What does the trailer show? 4 players are online together playing Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint. There are two perspectives:
- First, you see 4 elite super soldiers in a forest, competently and professionally doing what super mercenaries do: mainly killing nameless enemies like on an assembly line
- and you see the players sitting at home on their sofas talking into their headsets. The killer is controlled by him here:
The trailer shows that 3 players are fully engaged and playing Ghost Recon Breakpoint intensively.
Rap star Lil Wayne, on the other hand, is a terrible teammate who constantly goes AFK, hangs on the phone, or lets his dog eat the headset.
Lil Wayne makes a Leroy Jenkins
This is how the clip begins: While three players are still discussing how to proceed tactically, Lil Wayne shows up late, yells his full name, and then runs into the enemies. A classic Leroy Jenkins.
The best part is: A great moment is when Lil Wayne insists on driving the Jeep that all 4 are in because “he lost his driver’s license and that’s the only way he can still drive.”
But of course, another call comes in and the Jeep goes over the cliff.
Snoop Dogg makes everything worse
This is how the clip ends: In the end, Lil Wayne’s character dies because he blows himself up after a last-minute heroics saving everyone. However, his 3 partners do not revive him, but let him die out of revenge for his AFK antics.
But that was a bad decision because as a replacement Snoop Dogg appears and dives into hordes of enemies Kamikaze-style while asking, “Hey, which button is for the rocket launcher?”
Why is the trailer so good? Two things come together:
- First, the gamer everyday life with “players from hell” who constantly go AFK is well captured
- On the other hand, the trailer has high production values and looks like a movie
This is how the trailer is received: On YouTube, the English-language trailer has 21,837 upvotes and 2,752 downvotes (via youtube). The comments are:
- The first time I watched a commercial in full length on YouTube
- We all have that one friend who is always on the phone when we play
- And “Hey guys! I found all the effort that I missed in the beta.”
Even under the German version, YouTube viewers are impressed. The prevailing opinion is that it is once again a really cool trailer from Ubisoft.
One says, however: “Classic Ubisoft, the PR department has more money again than the development team.”
