What do I need Steam trading cards for? These cards are virtual objects that you can collect in your account until you have a complete set. However, you can do more with them than just view them.
With your trading card sets, you can create badges, which in turn provide you with additional rewards. Because with the badges you gain XP, which increases your account level, allowing you to unlock new items.
Where can I find my Steam trading cards?
If you want to check which trading cards you have already earned with your account, go to your profile name at the top of the bar and then to “BADGES”.
It also works through the Steam client via your player name in the top bar.
You can alternatively go to the Inventory menu and view your items there; trading cards are among them. Clicking on an item gives you important information about your card.
How to “farm” trading cards
How do I get Steam trading cards? To obtain the virtual cards, you need to play games on the platform that participate in the trading card promotion. Now and then you will receive cards while playing, which will appear in your Steam inventory.
However, there are also cards that you cannot earn but must obtain through booster packs or the community market.
The number of cards you can receive per game varies depending on the game.
How do I know which cards I can earn? If you click on “How do I get cards?“ in the badges menu, you will get an overview with the number of:
- Received card finds through purchase
- Found cards
Thus, you can see how many cards you can still earn for free in the selected game and how many you need to obtain through trading. Often, the number of obtainable cards is half the total number of cards available in a game.
For example, in Naraka: Bladepoint you can obtain 3 out of the 6 total available cards by playing the game.
What does “received card finds through purchase” mean? This does not mean that you already own the respective cards, but only that you now have the opportunity to earn those cards by purchasing the game.

Sell trading cards or convert them into gems
How can I sell Steam trading cards? If you go to the trading card view through your inventory, you will find the option to sell your trading card at the bottom right. You will see a graph that can help you find an appropriate price.
Enter your desired amount that you want to receive or the purchase price. The corresponding other amount will be automatically adjusted to your entries. After agreeing to the terms of the Steam user agreement, you can offer your trading card for sale.
What else can I do with Steam trading cards? If you no longer want a trading card, you can also convert it into gems. Gems represent a virtual currency on the gaming platform and can be resold or exchanged.
What can I do with Steam gems? You can use the gems to purchase booster packs, which in turn can expand your stock of trading cards. You receive 3 random trading cards for a selected game per booster pack.
To do this, go to the badges menu in the top right and select “Booster-Pack Creation“. There you will find an overview of how many gems it costs to obtain a booster pack for a specific game.
