In Destiny 2, at the end of the cleansing mission, there is a chest that you can only open with corrupted keycodes. We explain what’s inside and how you can quickly and easily get the new item.
Here’s what it’s about: In Season 14, the Season of the Splicer, you can now find corrupted keycodes. Only with these can you open certain chests and grab additional loot that is worth it.

Destiny 2: Corrupted Keycode – Explanation and Sources
Since the Season of the Splicer, you can find the new consumable item ‘corrupted keycode’. You will always find your stock of keycodes in your inventory. However, keep in mind that you can only stack 5 corrupted keycodes.
With corrupted keycodes, you open corrupted Conflux chests in Destiny 2. You can find these chests since June 15 at the end of a cleansing mission. Without the keycode, you cannot open the chests and miss out on the loot. If you open a corrupted Conflux chest 3 times in a week, you even receive high-end gear.
You receive corrupted keycodes randomly after defeating enemies anywhere in the Solar System – you do not necessarily have to play the seasonal activities. You will then get one keycode each time – on the ground, a code looks like a blue triangle. If you forget to pick it up, check with the Postmaster.
To receive the corrupted keycodes, you must have completed at least one corrupted cleansing mission. In the labyrinths, there are possessed spheres and anomalies everywhere, and no longer only Vex enemies. You will also receive a message from Mithrax and see the perk ‘Corrupted Access’ on your Splicer gloves on the far right.
Loot from corrupted Vex chests in cleansing
This is your reward: If you open the chest at the end of a cleansing mission with a corrupted keycode, you can receive 2 different things:
- A seasonal weapon with a 2nd perk in the last slot
- A seasonal armor piece with high stats
- If you open this corrupted Vex chest for the 3rd time in a week, you will also receive high-end gear – you can then get a 2nd perk here as well.
Especially the weapons are really worth it. Since almost all new Splicer weapons are very strong, the choice of 2 perks is well received. Either you have a double chance for the God Roll or you cover 2 situations with one weapon.
However, you must play through the entire cleansing mission each time, as the corrupted Vex chest does not appear until after the boss. This takes about 10 minutes (if you have some practice). How to get more out of your corrupted keycodes
To have access to seasonal weapons with extra perks and have a high chance of getting strong armor, you also need to upgrade your Splicer gloves. You should definitely get the upgrades if you plan to open the corrupted Vex chest.
On the far right, you will recently find the row “Exploitation I – III” as an upgrade path:
Here’s how expensive the upgrades are: The upgrades will cost you in order, first 100 Decoded Data, then 300, and for the final upgrade a whopping 500 Decoded Data.
Farming corrupted keycodes in Season 14
You can only earn corrupted keycodes by playing Destiny 2. Whether you play strikes, public events, Gambit, or even Crucible, every defeated enemy has a small chance of dropping a keycode for you. Once you have found 5 keycodes, further drops will go to the Postmaster.
Here’s how to do it quickly: Activities with a high number of weak enemies are best for farming corrupted keycodes. Ideally, you pack an Exotic that you also want to level a catalyst for or use the Witherhoard.
These 3 activities are suitable for farming:
- “Altars of Sorrow” on the Moon: This massive public event throws countless enemies at you. Often, there are also other guardians here who can help you quickly get through the waves.
- “Shattered Throne” dungeon in the Dreaming City. Play up to the checkpoint with the stairs, where countless small thralls spawn.
- “Last Wish” raid: Wish for Shuro Chi. Here you can start the encounter, quickly eliminate the many enemies and let yourself get killed, just to start again immediately. All wish codes can be found here in the guide.
- Bungie has already increased the drop rate because many players played for hours without receiving even one corrupted keycode (via Twitter).
