In Fortnite: Battle Royale you can currently get 2 cool banners for free. However, you have to let someone gift them to you. And gifting only works if you have activated 2FA. But what is that and how does it work?
What is free? Currently, there are free banners in the Fortnite item shop. But not just any banners; they are banners that clearly assign you to one of the two major contenders in the upcoming Titan battle in the Doggus vs. Cattus event. So there is one banner for Team Doggus and one for Team Cattus.
The banners are free, but you cannot purchase them for yourself. The banners can only be gifted. To get them, you need a friend who will give them to you. Ideally, you then also gift one to them in return.
But how can you gift items and what does the mysterious “2FA” have to do with it, which you need?
How to activate 2FA for free banners
This is 2FA: The term “2FA” stands for the cumbersome expression “2-Factor Authentication”. This actually only brings you advantages. When you log into your Fortnite account, you first need to enter a code that is sent to you via the 2FA function by email or via an app.
This protects against hackers, as they would theoretically also need access to your email account or smartphone in order to hack into your account.
This is how you set up 2FA: Go either to Fortnite.com/2FA or click on the “Password and Security” tab on the left side of your Epic account page. There, select the 2-Factor Authentication under “Account Security” and activate it.
This is how it works via app: Instead of an email with a code, you can also use these apps to generate a code on your mobile device:
- Google Authenticator
- LastPass Authenticator
- Microsoft Authenticator
- Authy
Attention: To activate the 2FA function, the email address of your Epic account must also be verified.
Once you have set up 2FA, you can “purchase” the banners for 0 V-Bucks and gift them to a friend with whom you must have been friends for at least 48 hours. You can find all further details about gifting here.
